"Mr. Sinclair ate too much meat yesterday and got indigestion. He spent today resting and eating bland food. He says if he stays there any longer, he'll either starve to death or eat himself to death."
As Jack rambled on, I couldn't help but laugh.
Sorry, honey, but you're in a pretty pitiful state... and it's kind of hilarious.
I asked Jack, "Has he learned his lesson?"
Jack eagerly replied, "Oh, he has! He definitely has! I guarantee it!"
That sure?
I get it now.
All this playing the victim just to soften me up and let him come back.
Well, I'm not falling for it.
Sandy next door spent two months in the countryside. Not only did she manage just fine, but she also got along great with the villagers and had a blast. I heard she was even reluctant to leave.
If a girl can do it, a grown man like him isn't gonna die out there.
I ignored Jack's pleading eyes without mercy.
"Let him stay there a while longer."
I refuse to believe I can't fix him.
After that, I kept going to work as usual, and Jack kept giving me daily updates on Ethan.
But gradually, things started to take a weird turn.
"Mr. Sinclair walked around the village today and played cards with the old guys all day."
"Looks like a group of people arrived at Riverside Village today, seems they're there to film a show."
"Confirmed. It's the countryside lifestyle reality show 'Dreaming of the Countryside'."
"The guests include Oscar Hawthorne, the award-winning actor, host Ryan Fletcher, actors Lily Moore and Jason Brooks, and pop idol Chloe Carter."
"Another guest, pop idol Victoria Smith, got in a car accident on her way and can't film. To keep the show on schedule, the production team is looking for a local to fill in."
"They ran into Mr. Sinclair playing cards while looking for a replacement. They probably invited him because he looks distinguished and handsome. Mr. Sinclair might've agreed out of boredom. He's now paired with Lily."
I rolled my eyes at Jack. He sure knows how to kiss up to Ethan. No wonder Ethan paid him so well.
But, Lily Moore... that name rings a bell.
