In a hurry, I sped down unfamiliar roads for the first time, barely making it back in time.
I jogged to Ethan's shabby cabin. Just as I was about to go in, I heard the sound of a cup shattering inside.
Then came Lily's furious yelling.
"Evan, don't push your luck. Me liking you is a big deal. You're just a poor country boy - you should count your lucky stars I even looked your way. Stop acting all high and mighty and quit avoiding me."
"I haven't even called you out for pushing me during that task this afternoon and making me fall. Who do you think you're giving the cold shoulder to?"
"And that stuff about being married - you're just making that up to get rid of me, aren't you?"
Ethan calmly replied, "I've told you the truth. Believe it or not, that's up to you."
"I don't want to see you. Please leave."
"If my foot wasn't hurt, I wouldn't let you off the hook for what you just said."
Lily scoffed, "What can you do to me, even if your foot heals? I'm a big star. I could easily post on Insta saying you sexually harassed me, and boom - you'd be in the middle of a social media storm, getting dragged online. Wanna bet?"
I couldn't take it anymore. I knocked and walked in without waiting for an answer.
Lily's face changed the moment she saw me.
"Director, Evan hurt his foot earlier. I came to check on him but didn't bring any medicine. I was about to ask you guys for some."
Ethan tried to speak, but I gave him a look. Disguising my voice, I said, "I know. I brought some meds. By the way, I think I saw your manager looking for you. Seemed pretty urgent."
"Oh, is that so? I'll head back then. Thanks for taking care of this."
She turned to Ethan with a gentle look, "Evan, get some rest, okay?"
