After finishing a drawing, I feel like my neck's about to snap off.
Meanwhile, the feline prince next to me is sprawled out, sleeping like he doesn't have a care in the world. Talk about living the good life.
I snap a pic of my messy desk and post it on Instagram with the caption: "Finally done!"
I start tidying up, not having a clue that this Instagram post is about to blow up.
When I finally take a breather and check my phone, there are already hundreds of comments.
Some praise my hard work, others are drooling over my big workspace, and a few are already calling dibs on the bonus-funded dinner.
About a dozen comments in, one stands out with a bunch of question marks: "??? Am I the only one who spotted the cat tail?"
Sure enough, in the chaos of sketches on my desk, there's a big, fluffy yellow tail in the frame. The fur looks silky smooth and totally relaxed - you can just imagine how comfy that cat must be.
The comments take a sharp left turn from there.
"Amy, since when do you have a cat?"
"Judging by that tail, it's gotta be a Garfield!"
"Look at the size of it - that's no kitten!"
"Doesn't it look familiar to anyone else?"
"Isn't Mr. Black's cat also a Garfield?"
Mr. Black, aka Noah Black, is my boss.
Usually all business, straight-faced. His Instagram is nothing but his Garfield cat's daily shenanigans.
Mr. Black's cat takes after him - always looking grumpy, with a perpetual "I'm too good for this world" expression.
No matter what angle Mr. Black shoots from, his Garfield cat always looks like royalty, oozing "I couldn't care less about any of you" vibes.
It doesn't take long for someone to screenshot Mr. Black's Instagram and play "spot the difference" with my photo.
The verdict: Based on the markings, pattern, and size, it's definitely Mr. Black's Garfield. No doubt about it.
The work group chat (minus Mr. Black) goes bananas with questions and theories.
"Why is Mr. Black's cat at Amy Gill's place?"
"She must be cat-sitting, right?"
"Since when does Mr. Black trust Amy that much? There are like, several ranks between them!"
"Plot twist: Amy's been Mr. Black's mole all along!"
