Chapter 17

As soon as he picked up, I started, "About the photo..."

"I know," Noah cut me off.

"Will it be a problem..."

"No!" Someone called for him on his end. "I'll be back later." He hung up.

I knew he'd handle it well. He's probably worried about people finding out about us too, right?

He must be.

I was dozing off on the couch with Happy when Noah got back.

He was surprised to see me curled up on the couch. "Why aren't you in bed?"

"I was thinking about when to move out."

Noah glanced at me and kept changing. He actually brought home loungewear and had the nerve to change right in front of me.

Those abs, that V-line, and those strong legs.

I gulped.

"You start imagining things when you're sleep-deprived." The guy actually tried to hug me at a time like this.

I held him back. "Can I take Happy with me? I'd worry if someone else was looking after him."

Noah looked at me and sighed deeply, then said coldly, "What nonsense is this?"

"Hmm!" I stood my ground. "I'm quitting tomorrow."

Noah frowned at me. "You sure about this?"

"There's a project brainstorming session tomorrow afternoon. We'll talk after that."

Always the boss, never letting work get disrupted.

Heartless capitalist!

I picked up Happy and dumped him in Noah's arms. "Bedtime!" I said, heading to the bedroom and slamming the door.

I waited for ages, but Noah never came to check on me. Happy nudged the door open and squeezed in to sleep with me.

Thinking about it, I guess I'm really just the cat's servant.

That jerk of a man isn't even as loyal as a cat.

When I came out of the bedroom in the morning, Noah was gone. His loungewear was hanging by the door.

My phone rang. It was Tom.

"Mr. Black said you didn't sleep well last night. He doesn't want you driving. I'm here to take you to work."

I handed Tom the keys to the BMW Mini. "It's in the parking garage."

Tom took the keys without a word. His attitude reflected Noah's.

Silent approval!
