Chapter 22

When I put her on the bed, she wouldn't let go, pulling me down with her.

She squinted at me, poking my nose, "I really like you..."

My heart skipped a beat. I had to ask, "Really?"

I'd never been sure how she felt about me, and I was scared to make a move in case it spooked her.

She nodded hard, her eyes all hazy, "Really, I really like you—r gift."

Cheeky little thing, I just can't with her.

Her face was all flushed, mumbling something under her breath.

I couldn't help myself. I leaned in and gave her a soft kiss.

She froze for a second, then relaxed and kissed me back. I didn't want to stop.

When I finally pulled away, she touched her lips and said, "Mmm, Happy, good boy!"

As she was dozing off, she yelled, "Noah, Happy pooped!"

She called me Noah.

Not sure how she'll be in the middle of the night when she's drunk, so I better stick around and keep an eye on her.

That Jessica, I already warned her to keep her nose to the grindstone in her department.

But at the company party, she's still giving Amy a hard time, and that silly goose is trying to tough it out by drinking.

I gotta hustle over there and bail her out. She's a handful when she drinks too much!

"You've had one too many. Time to hit the hay," I said, steering Jessica out of the ballroom.

I was about to head back when Jessica suddenly grabbed me. "Mr. Black, can we talk for a sec?"

"No can do!" I kept walking.

"I know some dirt on Amy!" she blurted out.

I had to turn around and give her the stink eye.

She looked smug. "Don't worry, Mr. Black. I won't spill the beans. After all, a female employee being a sugar baby isn't exactly something to write home about."

"Amy's got a bad rep. She's been around the block, you know? Bet you didn't know that."

"If I hadn't left the company back then, with my skills, I'd have been your assistant ages ago."
