“But Grace…”
“Didn’t you say you’d do anything for me?” I cut him off. “Then you can’t tell anyone about us.”
Though clearly unhappy, Asher nodded in agreement.
He looked as dejected as a little puppy, and for a moment, I felt a twinge of guilt. But now wasn’t the time to reveal our relationship to the world.
We were chatting as we walked into the hotel lobby. Through the glass, I spotted Christopher and Jasmine standing across the street.
How convenient.
I turned to Asher and said, “You go on ahead and wait for me outside. I have something to take care of, but I’ll be quick.”
Asher, always obedient, walked out, only to bump into Christopher.
From a distance, I watched the three of them exchange a few words before Christopher and Jasmine hurried off, leaving Asher standing there alone.
On the way back, I asked him, “Who was that you ran into at the door?”
“Oh, that was my sister Jasmine and my brother-in-law,” Asher replied.
“Brother-in-law?” I was surprised by his choice of words.
“Yeah, it’s my first time meeting him. He seems reliable. They’re getting married soon.” Asher smiled, clearly pleased. “Jasmine raised me from when I was little. I’m really happy she’s found someone dependable.”
“Well… congratulations,” I said with a smile.
“Jasmine’s a great person. One day, I’d love to introduce you to her. I’m sure she’d be really happy to meet you too!” Asher spoke with a bit of hesitation, as if he was nervous about my reaction.
I nodded. “I’m looking forward to meeting your sister.”
But when that day comes, she probably won’t be as happy.
Back at my studio, the person I had planted close to Jasmine came by with information.
He handed me a recording.
As I listened to it, I was filled with an overwhelming urge to storm over and kick the baby out of Jasmine’s belly.
