Chapter 19

The lead officer held up his police credentials and walked straight to Christopher.

“Christopher Reynolds, you’ve been reported for embezzlement, bribery, and misappropriation of public funds. Please come with us.”

The crowd erupted into whispers.

With no way to escape, Christopher was taken away, but as he left, he instinctively looked back at me.

I covered half of my face and smiled at him, mouthing the words: “It was me.”

“Grace Bennett!” Christopher glared at me with fury.

With such a scene unfolding, the art exhibition couldn’t go on. I had the place cleared out.

In the end, only Jasmine, Asher, and I remained in the gallery.

“Grace Bennett, you’re ruthless! I’ve already told you, this has nothing to do with my brother, so why did you have to drag him into this?” Jasmine cried, clutching her belly, her eyes brimming with tears.

I shot her a cold glance and asked, “How dare you accuse me? He’s in this mess because of you! You’re the one who seduced my husband first!”

“You’re just trying to destroy him!” Jasmine screamed.

I stepped closer to her and whispered, so only we could hear, “That’s right. When you seduced my husband, did you ever think of the consequences? How does it feel to see your brother played by me?”

Jasmine broke down, raising her hand to hit me again, but this time, I wouldn’t let her. I dodged, and she missed, losing her balance and falling to the floor.

Asher rushed forward to help her, his eyes red as he looked at me. “Grace, this isn’t true, right?”

I burst out laughing. For the first time, I didn’t have to hide who I really was in front of him.

“Asher, you’ve seen it all, haven’t you? Christopher and I are the ones legally married. And your sister,” I pointed at Jasmine, who was still sitting on the floor, “is the mistress! She’s the one who wrecked my family! She deserves this.”

“And what about me?” Asher shouted, his voice breaking. “What am I to you?”

I had crueler words ready, but in the end, I couldn’t bring myself to say them.

“Asher,” he called my name for the first time, “have you been using me from the beginning? Did you get close to me just to get back at my sister? Did you ever even like me, even a little?”

Like?
