Duke had always lived off his wife's money. Now thanks to Delilah's mess, he was already broke with nothing from the divorce. When he tried looking for work, doors kept closing in his face. He eventually found out Delilah's husband had blacklisted him everywhere.
I panicked, knowing Duke would seek revenge on Delilah.
As expected, Duke lost it completely and threatened to release a video he'd secretly recorded of them fooling around at the KTV. He even went to Delilah's husband's company, wanting to show the CEO whether Delilah was really "forced" or not.
Word was that the CEO had been talking to lawyers about canceling the divorce, but after seeing the video, his face turned black with rage. His fury exploded on everyone around him. He had security kick Duke out of the office building, then used every trick in the book - both carrots and sticks - to make Duke permanently delete that video.
Despite Duke's usual arrogance, he cowered before real power. Plus, the CEO's offer was good money. He took the deal, handed over the video, and disappeared with the cash.
When Delilah learned about all these twists and turns, she fell ill. She's still crying non-stop, and I don't know what to do anymore. She was supposed to be resting after the procedure, but all this drama and emotional turmoil gave her stress-induced cardiomyopathy. She needs to stay in the hospital for observation.
I thought this was the end of it.
But less than a week later, my husband suddenly returned from overseas. The first thing he did was ask for a divorce.
"Why?" I asked.
Though I had a bad feeling, I still hoped for the best.
Until my husband threw some compromising photos in my face. "How dare you ask? Look what you've done!"
I picked them up - they were from that night.
"There's nothing left to say. Let's get divorced," were his final words before he stormed out.
A month later, I left the marriage with nothing. After that, I stopped hanging around bars and men. Life is short - some choose immediate pleasure, some live for their legacy. As for weak-willed me, I could only drink away my sorrows and try to keep up appearances.
There's still a long life ahead. I just hope I won't fall this low again.
