Chapter 9

She knew that if this came to light, I could completely destroy Bern. As a rational woman, when she discovered this, her first reaction wasn't heartbreak over her husband's infidelity, but to weigh the pros and cons.

If I exposed this, Bern would go to jail, but it would affect her child. If she divorced him, she wouldn't get all his assets - not a good deal.

She wanted me to help her take Bern down.

Looking at this gentle, quiet woman before me, I felt conflicted.

I never imagined that such a soft-spoken woman could be so ruthless.

I couldn't imagine how desperate Bern must have made her feel to harbor such hatred.

At the same time, I deeply hated Bern too.

He had broken our promise and secretly took these photos. I didn't know what he planned to do with them, but they were like time bombs that could explode any day.

I had to find a way to stop this.

Finally, I agreed to help her.

That day, Bern came to see me again.

I handed him a bottle of wine.

Bern curiously accepted the wine and took a taste. He praised how sweet and delicious it was. I laughed coldly inside - he had no idea of the impending doom.

If Bern had been smarter and treated his wife better, he would've known she wasn't ordinary. Though she came from a remote village, the people there were known for brewing a special kind of wine.

This wine contained datura, commonly known as devil's trumpet flower, and its effects were anything but ordinary.

I watched as Bern's eyes gradually became unfocused, knowing the wine was taking effect. When the time was right, I deliberately led him to the balcony.

Bern followed obediently, unaware he was stepping towards his end.
