Chapter 2

‘Did the boys forget to turn off the light?’

Without thinking much, I peeked through the crack to check, and what I saw stopped me in my tracks.

There was Zack, bent over my laundry basket, digging through it like he was searching for something.

Then suddenly his face lit up as he pulled out my black stockings, and then...

That scene left me totally stunned. It took me forever to process what I'd just witnessed.

My heart was racing like crazy, and I felt my face burning red. Too embarrassed to watch anymore, I snuck back to my room. So much for shy boy - turns out he had quite the wild side!

Being his age once myself, I knew exactly why he'd done it. Clearly, Zack had a serious crush on me.

Too bad there was a huge, unmovable wall between us. I'm a 36-year-old mom, and he's Jack's classmate. If I were still sweet sixteen, maybe I'd be thrilled to date such a cute guy.

Next morning, I called the boys for breakfast.

Zack was obviously feeling guilty about his midnight adventure. He wouldn't look me in the eye, kept his head down, stumbling over his words like a nervous schoolboy. It was to believe this was the same guy who'd been so bold in my bathroom last night.

I was still shaken up about what I'd seen, but played it cool until Jack eagerly dragged Zack off to play basketball.

I was relieved when they finally left!

Life went back to normal after that. Thanks to the settlement money from my husband's car accident - both from the driver and insurance company - Jack and I were set for life.

My husband's last wish was for me to take care of Jack, so I'd quit my job and rented a place near his school.

While Jack was at school, I'd just chill and binge-watch my shows. Life was peaceful. Little did I know there was a huge family crisis brewing.

A week later, Jack went to hang at Zack's place.

The next day, Zack's mom Roxanne showed up at my door with some shocking news about Jack's immoral behaviors.
