Chapter 3

I was exhausted, my shoulders aching - probably from all those hours hunched over books.

Before I could answer, Luke gathered my hair, tied it up loosely, and started massaging my shoulders with his large hands.

After a few minutes, his breathing grew heavier, his head dipping closer until it almost rested on my shoulder.

Feeling his warm breath, I startled and quickly pulled away, stammering, "That's enough, thank you. Let's eat."

What was I thinking, fantasizing about someone so much younger?

This was wrong!

Must've been the wine. I decided right then - no more drinking when Luke's around.

I had to admit, Luke was an amazing cook.

But his habit of walking around shirtless was getting to me. I cranked up the AC until several sneezes finally convinced him to put a shirt on.

"Is that your only shirt?"

I noticed Luke wearing the same clothes as yesterday.

He nodded, blushing slightly.

I regretted asking - I knew Rachel's situation. They'd borrowed just to cover tuition; new clothes weren't in the budget.

That evening, I took him shopping. When he heard I wanted to buy him clothes, he refused, worried about the cost.

I assured him it wasn't a loan - it was payment for helping around the house.

Luke tried on several outfits, looking handsome in each. The older saleswoman couldn't keep her hands to herself, squeezing his shoulders and feeling his chest, telling me how "lucky" I was to have such a "capable" young man.

Red-faced, I insisted she had the wrong idea.

"Don't be shy, honey! Nothing wrong with spending on a man. We women need some excitement - when they treat you right, it's worth every penny."

Mortified by her suggestive comments, I quickly paid and pulled Luke out of there.

Passing a women's boutique, Luke stopped.

He pointed to a nightgown on a mannequin. "Aunt Kate, I want to buy this."

"Come on in, young man! For your girlfriend?"

Luke blushed and nodded.

My heart sank a little - of course he had a girlfriend. They were already at the lingerie-buying stage?

Luke gave me those puppy dog eyes, and I caved. "Alright, we'll take it wrapped."

I couldn't blame him - he was at that age where hormones run high.
