That's when I looked down at myself.
I was still in my prison uniform, giving off a strong, foul smell. Under the uniform, my stomach was sunken in, with my ribs clearly visible.
I felt a hint of self-mockery.
Did Edward think I was on some kind of vacation in prison these three years?
Charlotte covered her nose, "Olivia, don't tell me you haven't showered at all?"
They didn't know that in my first year in prison, I was targeted by a gang leader who'd committed serious crimes.
They stole my ruby from me.
That ruby was Edward's first gift to me when we started dating.
I was beaten half to death trying to get it back.
Even after they saved my life, the doctors told me several of my organs were severely damaged.
The smell on me was from kidney failure.
After Charlotte's comment, Edward's frown deepened.
"Just a few years away and you've become such a mess."
I wanted to explain, but swallowed my words.
What was the point of explaining?
He wouldn't care about me anymore.
It would only make me look more pathetic.
When Edward saw I wasn't responding, he thought I was admitting to their accusations. His eyes showed disgust, "Do you realize coming back like this embarrasses the Meyer family?"
"Olivia Parker, get out. Clean yourself up before coming back."
He pulled a card from his pocket and threw it at me, "Otherwise, you won't see Noah."
The black card hit my face, and the humiliation was so strong it almost took my breath away.
I gripped the card tightly, but finally opened the door and got out.
My prison uniform drew stares from people on the street, their eyes full of obvious contempt.
It reminded me of three years ago, when Edward took me to court. People looked at me the same way when I was desperately trying to defend myself.
I hurriedly bought some clothes from a store and left.
