In the days after leaving the spa, I clearly felt someone watching my every move from the shadows. Must be those guys again.
I couldn't make any sudden moves right now - couldn't risk tipping them off.
But I noticed something had changed in our relationships. Huang Rong stopped chatting with us as frequently as before.
And Sophie was acting strange too. She might be blaming me for what happened - she stopped talking to me and even took some time off to "clear her head."
Though something felt off, I couldn't quite put my finger on what exactly it was.
This tense situation continued until the day Sophie finally reached out to me.
She mysteriously asked me to meet her at a coffee shop near the school, saying she had something important to discuss.
I hadn't seen Sophie in so long, I almost didn't recognize her.
She waved to me from a secluded corner spot with few people around. "Manman, come sit."
She seemed to have forgotten about the recent unpleasantness, calling me by my nickname just like before.
I could barely bring myself to call her "Feifei" anymore.
But as adults, we needed to maintain appearances.
"What's up? Why the sudden meeting?"
Sophie stared intently into my eyes, "I want to talk to you about Huang Rong."
At that name, my eyebrow twitched and questions rose in my mind. "Huang Rong? I don't know what she's been busy with lately."
"I've been thinking about this for days - don't you think she's acting strange?"
I gestured for her to continue.
"At first I thought you might have had something to do with what happened, since you arranged the meeting and those guys showed up at such a convenient time."
I gave a bitter smirk - so that's what she thought.
"The more I think about it, Huang Rong seems even more suspicious," Sophie said.
"She used to mention her husband couldn't satisfy her, but that doesn't mean she'd lose her head over any good-looking guy."
"Think back carefully - wasn't she acting really weird that day?"
