She went in. After getting the detective's signal, we followed closely behind.
This bathhouse had been around for several years without any bad reputation, but it was in a remote location and wasn't particularly popular. We couldn't figure out what made it so appealing to Huang Rong.
After getting our locker keys, we didn't bother with bathing and just changed into robes. It was weird - the place should've been packed on a weekend, but it was strangely empty.
The building had three floors: first floor for bathing and saunas, second for entertainment and relaxation, and third for overnight stays. We searched everywhere but couldn't find Huang Rong.
Sophie paced anxiously. "Did we lose her? We can't find her anywhere!"
After thinking for a moment, I tried to calm her down. "Let's be patient. Maybe we'll see something different tonight."
As night fell, we stayed in the second-floor lounge area. The place got eerily quiet as time went by. People who should've been gathered on the second floor mysteriously disappeared.
Something wasn't right.
Sophie suddenly grabbed my arm and whispered, "Manman, do you feel the floor vibrating?"
I focused intently, paying attention to every little sound around us. In the dead silence, we definitely felt vibrations from below and muffled noise.
"Let's go downstairs!"
We followed the sound, running through various sauna rooms until we found a small door at the end.
The closer we got, the clearer the sounds became.
It was coming from behind that door!
I grabbed Sophie's hand tightly, took a deep breath to prepare myself, and we pushed the door open.
What we found was a massive space filled with cigarette smoke. There were gambling tables everywhere, with roulette wheels and card dealers. All the "missing" customers were here, crowded around tables. The atmosphere was tense, punctuated by occasional cheers - a scene of decadence and excess.
