The suite was huge and eerily quiet, seeming empty. Maybe I was just being paranoid.
I sat on the couch and was about to call Huang Rong when Sophie let out a blood-curdling scream.
We'd walked right into a trap. My heart sank as I sensed danger, jumping to my feet alertly.
The main bedroom door swung open, and two women emerged. Sophie had a knife pressed against her throat, and the one holding it was none other than Huang Rong.
Big Beard came out behind them, his face cold as ice. He stared at me with pure hatred and rage in his eyes.
The three of them stood together, clearly united against us.
My heart was in my throat, making it hard to breathe. Every part of my body was trembling, my hands and feet ice cold. "Huang Rong, has anything you've ever told us been true?"
She avoided my eyes, dodging the question. Instead, she blamed me: "This is what happens when you stick your nose where it doesn't belong. None of this would've happened if you'd just left it alone."
Sophie was on the verge of tears, shaking uncontrollably, her hands trembling helplessly.
As they advanced toward me, I backed away until I tripped over the coffee table behind me and fell.
Coming to my senses through the fear, I quickly pressed the button hidden in my sleeve.
Now I could only pray the detective would get the police here in time to save us.
"Didn't I tell you not to cause trouble?" Big Beard played with his knife, shooting me a poisonous look.
He kept coming closer, intimidating as hell. Looking at that sharp blade in his hand, I couldn't pretend I wasn't terrified.
I tried to keep my voice steady: "Listen, brother, Huang Rong tricked me into coming here. I wasn't trying to mess with you."
