Chapter 2 A Painful Revelation

My husband's profile picture caught my attention, it was still the roses and diamond ring that I used on Valentine's Day. This year, as we were too tight on money when we got married, he couldn't afford a proper wedding ring then, so he bought me a five-carat diamond ring, along with a bouquet of fresh Diana roses. I snapped a photo of them and posted it on Instagram to show off our love. He used one of those pictures as his profile pic.

Rachel scrolled through her phone quickly. I could only catch glimpses of their messages but the few I saw were enough to make my heart race. I could barely breathe. I felt like a fish that was suddenly thrown onto the riverbank. My ears were throbbing.

"Send me screenshots if the messages are real," I managed to say. "These might be messages about work that you edited to fit your narratives, is that what you did?"

She smirked. "I won't send you the chat logs. A glimpse should be enough for you."

"Fine, why don't you slow down for me to see them clearly," I requested.

She slowed down her scrolling and I saw how my husband had been calling another woman "baby," "sweetheart," and "darling" in the middle of the night. He even wrote about her sweet scent and how good she was in bed...

Everything started spinning around me. It seemed like an earthquake was coming. But the earthquake was only in my head, coming to tear my whole life apart.

"Mrs. Jenkins, are you alright?" she asked and put away her phone. There was a sinister smile on her face which made me realize that she was just trying to get under my skin.

"No, I'm not. You make me sick," I kept smiling, despite how bad my face muscles ached. "You seduced a married man, slept with him shamelessly, and you still have the guts to brag about it. Do you have any morals at all?"

"Mrs. Jenkins, I know what I did was wrong. That is why I didn't respond when you insulted me. I am just here to tell you the truth and apologize. Now that you know the truth, please believe me, I'm so sorry for sleeping with your husband and making him fall in love with me." Rachel's expression was serious, but her eyes showed no remorse.

"Are you really apologizing because he loves you?" I couldn't stop myself from laughing. "What do you think love is? Do you think it's just like a business deal? Do you think Tyler is blind enough to fall in love with you? Do you have any meaningful things to talk about with him? You should realize that he only wants your young body."

I didn't know how other women would react when their husbands cheated on them. But for me, it was unacceptable, I just couldn't accept it. I was just trying not to look devastated as I felt.

"Your words don't bother me," she said softly. "Whether you accept it or not, I've made my position clear. As for what he wants from me, that's not your concern anymore. Even if he just wants my young body, that's because you don't have it to offer. You're Mrs. Jenkins in name only, won't it be better if you divorce him? We're actually schoolmates, we both had Ph.D. graduates in Biological Genetics from Ashworth University. You shouldn't waste the rest of your life on a man who doesn't love you."

"That's not your decision to make. If I'm wasting my life, that's none of your business. But you? You're just trash." I stood up and threw my untouched coffee right in her face.

Her perfectly done makeup was marred by the coffee. I smirked and dropped the cup. After staring at her with disgust for a moment, I turned to leave.

At that moment, Tyler pushed the revolving door and strode in. His eyes fell on me first, before he finally turned to Rachel.

Now that he was here, I decided to stay and see what would happen.

Tyler tried to keep his cool. He walked up to me and said with a cold voice, "Why are you here? Shouldn't you be at the school to pick up our kid? "

I pointed to Rachel, who was standing right behind me. "She asked me to come. She says you two have been having an affair for over six months. I just want to know one thing, is it true?"
