I hear the door shut again.

Pushing myself up, I lean against the headboard, trying to steady my breathing.

The memories hit hard - watching Mom go through this same hell every time William was with Carol. Now I understand exactly what she felt, that gut-wrenching pain every single time he betrayed her.
