Lucas is facing me with his back to the steps. I look past him to the top of the stairs.

"Where are Mia and Nicole?" I ask.

"Nicole's with Mia - she's been dealing with awful morning sickness since we got here," Alpha Richard explains. "To be honest, the smell around here would make anyone sick."
