Chapter 5 Don't Do This, Someone Might See

The men kept apologizing and begging him to reconsider, hoping Hawk would let them off the hook.

Unfortunately for them, Horrace didn't even spare them a glance. The manager promptly called security to have them thrown out.

While the troublemakers were removed, Horrace didn't even look at Chloe. Once they were gone, he simply turned around and went back to his seat.

Chloe quickly followed him. "About what just happened… thank you."

Horrace didn't respond, and his face was made of stone.

Chloe was starting to get annoyed by his attitude but that's when she noticed the blood dripping onto the table. It was coming from the shattered glass in his right hand. He’d broken it in his hand and now was injured, the wound was still bleeding.

"You're hurt? Let me see," Chloe immediately requested, forgetting about her previous annoyance.

She didn't know how Horrace had gotten injured, but he had just helped her after all. And as a doctor, her sense of duty wouldn't allow her to ignore a wounded person.

Chloe called over the manager and asked for a first-aid kit. Then, before Horrace had a chance to protest, she grabbed his hand and began cleaning the wound.

Horrace remained silent, and ultimately decided not to resist her efforts either.

"The wound is pretty deep. Try to keep it dry for the next couple of days," Chloe said as she carefully bandaged him, her tone professional yet gentle.

Once finished, she assumed Horrace would continue ignoring her like he’d been doing so far, so she stood up to leave.

But to her surprise, before she could turn away, he asked, "Do you have a driver's license?"

Chloe paused briefly, not sure if he was speaking to her. But there was no one else around them.

"Uh, yes, I do," she replied hesitantly. But ever since she'd gotten her license, she hadn't driven much.

Before she could explain, Horrace tossed her his car keys. "Drive me," he said, in his usual demanding voice.

Chloe initially wanted to refuse, but then she glanced at his bandaged hand and remembered that he'd also been drinking, and she realized he probably couldn't drive himself.

Besides, he had helped her three times that day, and refusing him now felt wrong. With a reluctant sigh, she took the keys.

Once they settled into the car, Chloe asked, "Where to?"

"Your place," he responded, without missing a beat.

Chloe’s heart skipped. "What?"

Horrace let out a low chuckle. "Your apartment isn't far from here."

That was true, but what did that have to do with anything? She remained puzzled.

Before she could say anything, Horrace leaned over and unbuckled her seatbelt.

A sense of foreboding rose in Chloe's chest. She quickly reached for the door handle to get out, but before she could open it, Horrace grabbed her waist and pulled her onto his lap with surprising ease.

"Let me go!" Chloe protested, squirming in his grip, her palms pressing against his chest.

Horrace’s arms locked around her waist, holding her firmly in place. "If you keep squirming like this, I can't promise I won't do something to you right here."

The closeness between them was intoxicating, and with it being summer, neither of them was wearing much. Within moments, Chloe felt the hard pressure of him against her.

Her face turned crimson. Horrace noticed and shifted his hips purposefully so he could press harder.

Panicking, she pushed against his chest, desperately trying to create some distance. "Don't! Someone might see us!"

Their one night stand had already been reckless enough. She didn't want to repeat that mistake.

But Horrace didn't give her a chance to protest further. His lips curved into a sly smile as his hand had already slid down to lift her skirt.
