Evelyn quickly lowered her head, not daring to look a second time.
Thankfully, they didn’t stay long and left after finishing the consultation.
Evelyn secretly breathed a sigh of relief, giving a few more instructions to Hannah before leaving the ward.
As she passed the department bulletin board, Evelyn stopped in her tracks.
For some reason, her eyes wandered to the list of doctors.
Victor's name was clearly listed second—Associate Chief Physician, 26 years old!
Evelyn thought she must be mistaken, but the details on the list clearly stated he was 26, with no room for doubt.
"Another girl enchanted by Dr. Kingsley," a nurse passing by said, noticing Evelyn staring at Victor's photo.
Evelyn quickly fled the scene.
It seemed she’d have to avoid the Cardiac Surgery department from now on, or else she’d keep running into that man. She certainly couldn’t handle being so cold and indifferent like him.
Her mind involuntarily recalled the wild night with him, and Evelyn quickly shook off the thoughts.
His coldness and indifference were all an act!
In reality, he was even worse than a beast!
The things he did… even now, they made her legs tremble.
…
Evelyn went to the hematology department to donate blood. Despite resting, she still felt dizzy when she left.
The nurse gave her milk and chocolate, and Evelyn sat on a safe stairwell, sipping the milk slowly.
Two hundred thousand dollars—this should be enough for Guton Holt’s surgery, right?
Zara had always worried the most about Guton.
Thinking of Zara made Evelyn’s eyes well up.
She had been so close to making it through, but Zara had taken her life in the final year of her residency.
Using her favorite scalpel, she severed her own carotid artery.
“Zara, did it hurt?” Evelyn asked in her mind, over and over.
But she would never get an answer.
The sound of footsteps broke the silence in the stairwell. Evelyn turned around in a panic.
Victor lit the cigarette in his hand, tilting his head slightly, his body half-reclining against the wall.
He stood above her, his eyelids half-lowered, looking down through the misty haze with an air of cold detachment, as if gazing at the world from a distance.
Evelyn froze in fear.
She quickly stood up to run, but due to a lack of blood flow, her head spun, and she collapsed, losing consciousness.
When she finally regained consciousness, she found herself lying in a hospital bed.
Dr. Zoe was talking to someone nearby. “Why did she go donate blood again? She had a ruptured corpus luteum last night and was bleeding. Her body is still weak. It’s no surprise she fainted.”
“Ruptured corpus luteum?”
A man’s voice sounded, and Evelyn’s eyes snapped open.
It was him!
Victor!
Dr. Zoe hesitated. “Young people just don’t know better. Luckily, the bleeding wasn’t severe, but it could’ve been dangerous.”
At that moment, Evelyn wished she could crawl into a hole and hide, never seeing anyone again.
When Victor turned to look at her, she buried her face in the blanket.
She gripped the blanket tightly, just like she had clutched the sink last night.
The man’s eyes darkened, his voice colder than before. “She needs proper rest.”
“Of course, but these men today really don’t understand how to cherish women. They don’t show any concern, not even a phone call to check on her when she faints. Eve’s a great girl, but her taste in men is questionable,” Dr. Zoe said.
Evelyn, “…”
If only she could stay unconscious forever and never wake up.
If Dr. Zoe knew the person she was criticizing was standing right there, she might wish she could faint too.
The room fell silent for a while, only the sound of footsteps leaving.
Evelyn guessed that Dr. Zoe and the man had already left, and she cautiously peeked out.
Just as she saw the situation in front of her, she collided with a pair of cold, deep eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat. Stammering, she asked, “Y-You’re still here?”
“It was me who brought you here,” he reminded her kindly.
Evelyn fell silent for a moment before adding, “Thank you.”
Victor raised an eyebrow, his black eyes filled with a mixture of mockery and indifference.
Evelyn went silent again, then mustered the courage to emphasize, “Don’t worry, I’ll pay you back. And I guarantee I’ll cut ties with you.”
It seemed she didn’t appear as fragile or easy to deceive as she had last night.
Last night was one of the rare accidents in his current life.
…
Elysium West, 17th floor.
Bennett Riley had organized a gathering to welcome Victor.
Victor stopped for a few seconds in front of the specially crafted plaque Bennett had arranged.
“Aromatic Breeze Hall.”
Bennett proudly said, “What do you think? Doesn’t it really match the style of the 17th floor?”
“Why the 17th floor?” Victor asked.
Bennett explained, “Because sleeping with a 17-year-old is illegal.”
Victor raised his eyes and glanced at him coldly, clearly displeased, “Let’s change the location.”
“No way, no way, we’re staying here. I’m going to show you what real fun is like today,” Bennett insisted, dragging Victor to a private room.
The 17th floor of Elysium West was a place of extravagance and indulgence, a haven for the wealthy to seek pleasure.
The girls on the 17th floor were carefully selected to cater to high-end clientele.
Victor knew what Bennett had in mind, so he pretended to be drunk, trying to extract himself from the situation.
But Bennett saw right through him and forced him into a private room, still trying to convince him. “Vic, you should learn from me. Don’t live so cold and detached. You’re not a monk. What’s with the self-restraint? Life’s short—enjoy it while you can.”
The room was already prepared with a woman, but Victor wasn’t interested and was planning to leave.
Evelyn nervously spoke up, “Hello.”
The girl had doe-like eyes, which appeared even more innocent in her panic.
It was those very eyes that made Victor pause for a moment.
In that brief moment, the girl timidly walked up and nervously asked, “Sir, what style do you prefer?”
Bennett had bragged about the 17th floor several times, saying it was a man’s paradise, and that Victor should definitely try it.
Victor had never been interested before.
But now, seeing the girl’s frantic yet composed demeanor, he suddenly became intrigued.
“What can you do?”
Evelyn bit her lip, her mind going blank.
She had learned some things before.
She considered herself to have a decent mind—otherwise, she wouldn’t have gotten into medical school.
But right now, her brain seemed to have lost its sharpness. She couldn’t think straight and could only rattle off a few words she remembered.
“Fire and Ice, Desert Storm, Ants climbing a tree…”
Her voice grew softer, nearly inaudible by the end, her head sinking into her chest.
Victor thought to himself, Bennett had talked so much about this place, and this was all she could do?
These were such outdated tricks, and he had the nerve to brag about them.
Victor wasn’t interested and turned to leave.
But Evelyn, for some reason, found the courage to grab his arm, her eyes filled with pleading. “I really need the money. Please, help me.”
In her urgency, the corners of her eyes reddened.
Victor noticed the hint of red, and something stirred in his chest.
As a doctor, he’d seen this kind of look many times before.
Whether it was the last struggle or someone at the end of their rope.
And so, he changed his mind.
Victor tugged at his collar, sat down on the sofa in front of her, his legs slightly apart, elbows resting on his knees, his gaze on her like she was a product being inspected.
“How long have you been here?”
Evelyn felt uneasy and stuttered, “Fi... First time.”
She was afraid of ruining the client’s mood, so she trembled and added, “I’ll try my best to please you.”
Her heart was pounding hard, as if it was about to leap out of her chest.
Her cheeks were flushed, making her look even more appetizing.
Victor felt his body tense, unable to suppress his raised brow.
Had he been abstinent too long, and his self-control was fading?
To test his theory, he gestured to her with his finger. “Come here.”
Evelyn nervously took a few steps forward but kept her distance from him.
Victor smirked lightly. “What’s this? Do I have to teach you even the basics?”
