Chapter 5 Play Innocent

During the day at the hospital, he remained as cold and detached as an eternal iceberg. His gaze showed no trace of emotion.

Evelyn couldn't read people, so she couldn't tell which side of him was the real one.

Because of the sight of him coming out of the bath, her cheeks flushed red again.

"Come in." Victor looked at her blushing face for a moment.

His obsessive-compulsive tendencies flared up, and he almost reached out to wipe her face, curious if it was just natural redness or a deliberate makeup trick.

Evelyn nervously stepped inside, only standing at the entrance, worried she might dirty his floor.

Victor thought she was acting again. Wasn't she flirting on Facebook just a moment ago? Now, she was acting all innocent?

"Take them off," he coldly said, his voice sharp.

Evelyn hated it when he spoke like that—it made her panic.

She hurriedly began to undo her buttons, afraid of disappointing him by taking too long.

"I meant your shoes, not your clothes."

"..."

Evelyn wanted to sink into the ground from embarrassment.

After she hurriedly took off her shoes, Victor walked ahead into the living room. "Follow me."

This place was different from the luxurious style of the 17th floor; the décor was cold and minimalist. Everything was in shades of black, white, and gray, much like the impression he gave off: distant and reserved.

But she thought it was all a façade—after all, she had experienced his madness firsthand.

Evelyn followed him through the living room and into the master bedroom.

The bedroom was much larger than she had imagined. In the center, there was a large bed with black bedding.

"Go to the bathroom."

Victor's three simple words snapped her back to reality.

Her face not only turned red but felt hot for no reason.

This man, it seemed, had an obsession with bathrooms.

And mirrors.

She only found out last night that mirrors weren't just for makeup and combing hair.

When she entered his bathroom, she realized even the ceiling was mirrored.

"Turn around," he ordered, not giving her any time to hesitate.

"The doctor said I can't..." Evelyn murmured.

He already knew that. She hadn't lied to him.

Victor's dark eyes flashed with something unreadable. He lowered his head and kissed her lips fiercely.

...

As Evelyn left Hilltop Bliss, she received a bank transfer from Victor.

Did he think she had come to borrow money again?

She didn't accept it. After all, she had already achieved her goal.

When she was in the shower, she saw the bruises and marks all over her body—there wasn’t a single intact spot.

Her arms were sore.

But at least the objective had been reached. All this pain had been worth it.

Now, she just had to wait for Reed to come to her.

Since she hadn’t met him last night, Reed’s patience had evidently reached its limit. He skipped the morning meeting and directly called her to his office.

As soon as she walked in, Reed eagerly shut the door and reached out to grab her.

"Dr. Joyce, please respect yourself," Evelyn quickly avoided his hands and confronted him warily.

"Stop pretending. You know exactly what I want. If you sleep with me, I’ll sign your internship report immediately and arrange for you to join our department as a training doctor. How about it? Not everyone gets this opportunity, Eve. You should grab it."

Reed threw out the bait.

Most young girls would be tempted by this, either willingly or half-heartedly, satisfying Reed’s desires.

Evelyn didn’t seem to be an exception. She started unbuttoning her work clothes.

Reed’s eyes widened as he watched her, already anticipating the taste of her. He felt he couldn’t stop now.

"Dr. Joyce, I’m no longer a virgin." Evelyn unbuttoned two buttons, revealing the visible marks of their previous encounter.

Reed’s eyes grew wide in shock, "What have you done?"

She had been perfectly fine yesterday, but now she was like this. Reed was hit with a cold shock and his expression darkened.

"As you can see, I’m no longer to your taste. Can you let me go now?" Evelyn quickly buttoned her blouse back up and put her white coat back on properly.

The prey had been snatched away from him, and Reed's face turned purple with rage. "You did this on purpose, didn’t you?"

"Think whatever you like," she sneered.

"Fine. You’ll never graduate!" Reed threatened fiercely.

Evelyn had anticipated this, so she immediately took out her phone and aimed it at him. "So, you’re not signing my report because you couldn’t sleep with me, Dr. Joyce?"

"What are you doing?!" Reed's expression changed as he rushed to grab her phone.

Evelyn protected her phone tightly, unwilling to hand it over. She just wanted to have some leverage over Reed for self-preservation.

As long as she could delay until her internship ended, that would be enough.

But Reed wasn’t a fool. When he saw he couldn’t snatch the phone back, he stormed to the office door and shouted, "This is ridiculous! Eve, I didn’t think you were this kind of person. You’re trying to sleep your way to the top. I’ve been good to you, and this is how you repay me? I’m so disappointed. I will handle this seriously!"

People passed by outside the office, and the news quickly spread.

Evelyn was suspended for investigation that very day.

Reed, being cunning, left no substantial evidence behind.

The pressure fell entirely on Evelyn’s shoulders, and she had no way to defend herself.

"Isn’t that the girl who donated blood to patient 13? She seemed like a good girl, but look at what she’s done," Dr. Weston from Cardiac Surgery was also gossiping about the obstetrics scandal.

He squinted, holding his phone at arm’s length, not entirely sure, and asked Victor beside him, "Dr. Kingsley, is that the blood donor girl? I think her name’s Evelyn."

Victor wasn’t one to indulge in gossip. He was distant, cold, and never involved himself in these petty matters.

If Dr. Weston hadn’t mentioned her name, he wouldn’t have even glanced at the phone.

He just briefly glanced at Dr. Weston’s screen and confirmed, "It’s her."

That face, he remembered clearly.

After all, she had been the one he kissed into breathlessness last night, so he certainly wouldn’t forget her.

Dr. Weston, surprised to see Victor engage in gossip, immediately warmed up and tried to foster a connection, "I knew I wasn’t wrong. She’s under investigation now for allegedly seducing her department head just to get that internship report signed."

He shook his head, "The young girls these days can't handle hard work and always look for shortcuts. She really doesn’t look like the type, though."

She really did seem like someone who would choose shortcuts.

A restlessness stirred inside Victor.

Suppressing it, he took out his phone and said to Dr. Weston, "Send it to me."

Dr. Weston, taken aback, handed over the phone. It seemed that even Victor was intrigued by such gossip.

...

Serenity Hospital Administrative Department.

Felix Shaw had just come out of the interrogation room and took a large gulp of water from the cup on his desk.

A colleague, curious, asked, "Has the girl confessed yet?"
