"Love knot?"
Emily curiously cupped her chin and looked at Nancy.
The red thread around Nancy's fingers was like a living thing winding and twisting.
"What is a love knot? I don't think I've ever heard of it."
"It's a type of pattern."
The image of a love knot formed in Nancy's mind. As she braided it, she smiled and said, "There was a book in my family that documented various ways of braiding cords, and the love knot was one of them. There is a story about it."
"A story?"
Emily's eyes lit up. "Since we have nothing else to do, could you tell me the story of the love knot?"
"Sure."
Nancy picked up a jade bead and threaded it onto the red thread.
"In ancient times, there was a general who left his wife on their second day of marriage to go to the battlefield. The battlefield was extremely dangerous, and his wife was worried and missed him dearly. On the day he left, his wife braided a beautifully crafted bracelet with red thread. However, in that battle, the general sustained severe injuries and couldn't defeat the enemy."
"Ah!" Emily exclaimed, "Did he die?"
"Hehe... no."
Nancy chuckled lightly. "Upon hearing of his severe injuries, his wife begged to be allowed to take care of him on the frontline. When she arrived, she saw him covered in wounds but did not cry. She put the bracelet made with the red thread on his wrist and then tirelessly looked after him day and night. One day, the enemy attacked again..."
Emily frowned deeply. "He was still injured. That's so unfair!"
"Hehe, Ms. Wilson, the enemy didn't care about it. They just wanted to take advantage of his weakness to take his life!"
Emily sighed. "Yes, it's true. Perspectives differ depending on one's position. What happened next? Did the general die in the war?"
"No."
Nancy raised her head and looked at her gently. "Because his wife was still inside the city, the general fought fiercely against the enemy, even though his injuries hadn't fully healed. In the end, he repelled the enemy and achieved victory."
"Hehe..."
Emily chuckled. "Even heroes fall for beauties."
"Yes."
Nancy was now braiding the final knot. "Since then, his wife has always stayed by the general's side, and the general has always worn the love knot. The general became an invincible war hero. From then on, the love knot not only symbolized love and longing but also represented the couple's unwavering bond in the face of difficulties."
"Hehe..."
After finishing, she picked up the completed bracelet. "It's done, Ms. Wilson. Take a look. Do you like it?"
"Is it finished already?"
Emily took it and examined it with surprise. "Ms. Swinton, you are truly talented. This love knot is so beautiful."
"Hehe..."
Nancy modestly waved her hand. "It's nothing. I'm glad you like it."
"I love it so much!"
Emily raised her head and looked sincerely at Nancy. "Ms. Swinton, thank you so much. The story is wonderful, and the love knot is perfect. I've decided to sell you the orchard!"
