Linda's face instantly creased into a frown, clearly, the "who" he mentioned was her.
"Teacher David, it's not certain that I will hold Nan back..."
Seeing David about to explode, Nancy quickly grabbed his hand, "Teacher David, Linda's level is similar to mine, there's no question of holding anyone back. Besides, two people get five minutes of performance time, whereas one person only gets two. It's clearly a case of one plus one being greater than two. How can I not take advantage of such a benefit?"
David was about to say something more, but seeing Nancy and Linda looking at him eagerly, he found it hard to object further.
"Alright then."
He walked over to the sofa with his thermos cup and sat down, "Let's discuss the pieces you'll choose."
Seeing him relent, Linda excitedly linked arms with Nancy and bounced over to him.
Andrew and Patrick exchanged a smile and followed them.
After everyone sat down, David's gaze fell on Nancy and he asked directly, "Nancy, do you have any ideas in mind?"
"Yes."
Nancy nodded seriously, "I believe that what's national is global. Since Linda and I are both from Henriana, I want to play some of our national music."
"What?"
Andrew frowned, "Our folk songs are mostly played with ethnic instruments, the effect might not be as good on the piano."
"Not necessarily."
Nancy tapped her fingers lightly on the table, "For instance, 'Moon Reflected on the Second Spring' indeed has a great feel when played on the erhu, but music knows no borders. As long as it's good music, I believe any instrument can bring a different effect if the emotion is right."
"Right!"
Linda nodded vigorously, "Not just 'Moon Reflected on the Second Spring', but also 'Phoenix Seeking the Phoenix', 'Butterfly Lovers', 'Jasmine Flower', and many more. I think Nan and I can really try playing these on the piano."
David pondered for a moment. He wasn't in favor of Nancy and Linda playing ethnic music, as no one had heard it before, and there was no precedent. But seeing their excitement about national music, he didn't want to dampen their enthusiasm.
"Alright then, since you've already decided, go ahead. If the result isn't satisfactory in the end, we can still change the music."
"Great!"
Nancy and Linda high-fived and then ran off with paper and pen.
David shook his head, his confidence in Nancy seemingly wavering for a moment.
Well, let them experiment. If it really doesn't work out, they can change it on the last day.
Thinking this, he stood up and left, giving the four of them all the remaining time.
The next morning, after practicing for a while, Nancy lightly patted Linda's hand as the time approached, "Linda, keep practicing. I'll be back in an hour."
Linda looked up at her, puzzled, "Nan, an hour? What are you going to do?"
Nancy gave her a reproachful glance, "Why ask so many questions, kid? I'm not up to anything bad. I'll be back in an hour."
"Nan..."
Linda watched her leave, utterly baffled as to what Nancy could possibly be doing in that hour.
