Nancy and Linda screamed in shock. "Ah..."
Linda, particularly startled, sprang up as if she had springs in her seat. She tossed the ropes aside and ran to the old man's side. "Hey! What's wrong with you?" she asked anxiously.
Seeing no response from the old man, Linda squatted down and gently shook him. "Wake up! Don't scare me. What are you trying to do..."
But no matter how much she shook him, the old man remained motionless, eyes tightly shut.
"I... I..."
Linda's eyes reddened with fear, and she burst into tears. She looked at Nancy in a panic. "Nan... Nan... he's not dead because of me, is he?"
She truly didn't expect the old man to react so badly to a bit of anger, just collapsing on the spot. It was terrifying.
Nancy had already walked over. She waved at Linda to move aside. "Linda, step back a bit and give some space..."
Linda, utterly bewildered and compliant, stood aside.
Nancy squatted down and checked the old man's breath. After confirming a faint breath, she opened his eyelids to check his eyes.
"Phew..."
Nancy exhaled heavily and started pressing on the old man's chest, rhythmically compressing.
"This... this..."
Linda was clearly in shock. It was evident Nancy was trying to resuscitate the old man, but Linda didn't know Nancy's real skills. She worried Nancy was just mimicking TV shows.
"Nan, maybe we should stop and run. What if you really kill him with those presses? We won't be able to explain it then."
Nancy ignored her, persistently pressing on the man’s chest.
Seeing no response from the old man, Linda cried even harder. "Nan, let's leave. What if his family comes and thinks we killed him? Nan..."
Charlie, who had been calm the whole time, saw Linda's tears and knew she must be frightened. He looked at her and said, "Calm down."
"How can I calm down?"
Linda sobbed. "We didn't do anything to him. If he really dies here and we're the only ones present, we won't be able to explain. Wuu wuu... I didn't know he was so fragile. Just a little anger and he collapsed. Wuu..."
At that moment, Nancy suddenly said, "Husband, call an ambulance."
"Okay, sure."
Charlie immediately took out his phone and called for emergency services.
Linda looked between Nancy and Charlie, realizing she couldn't persuade them. She just sat down on the floor and cried, "Wuu wuu... Nan, did you kill him? Wuu... If that's true, I'll share the blame with you. Poor me, only twenty years old, haven’t even fulfilled my filial duties or become an internationally famous pianist, and now I might go to jail. Wuu wuu..."
