He had lost his appetite, but his two friends were eating voraciously.
Indeed, dinner was served a bit late today, and they were already starving.
"Can't you two eat a bit slower!"
Henry reproached them quietly, as if lamenting their lack of sophistication, "To an outsider, it might seem as if you've never seen food in your lifetimes."
The faces of the two boys stiffened, caught in an awkward predicament of whether to swallow or spit out their food.
"Hey, it's okay."
Charlie chuckled generously, "For young people, it's the time they grow, eating quickly and a lot is normal."
Saying this, he turned his head towards the kitchen, "Heather, is the added dish ready?"
Since Charlie planned to settle in Liverton, Maid Heather also came along with him.
Charlie liked having elderly staff, especially since Maid Heather had taken care of him for over ten years. He would find it uncomfortable to switch to someone else.
Maid Heather came in smiling with two plates, "Ready, ready, I was just about to bring them over."
Charlie nodded with a smile, "Place those two dishes by them, and the remaining dishes too."
Maid Heather, with a cheerful "Okay," turned around to fetch more dishes.
Having just been scolded by Henry, and now treated so generously by Charlie, their hearts were instantly softened by his kindness. They both turned to Charlie, gratefully saying, "Thank you, brother-in-law!"
Henry almost choked on his drink!
Damn, these two are not only useless but detrimental. He hadn't even called him brother-in-law, and here they were, doing just that.
Won over by a meal, so much for brotherhood!
He glared at them fiercely, but they were too busy eating to pay him any attention.
Sigh...
Henry took a deep breath, feeling that bringing them to Liverton was a mistake!
Charlie, seeing his sullen face, sneered inwardly.
Kid, trying to compete with me, the Young Master Firth? You're far from my level!
Nancy Swinton looked up, noticing for the first time that Henry wasn't eating. She swallowed her fish and called out, "Henry, what are you spacing out for? Eat."
Henry coldly put down his chopsticks, "I've lost my appetite."
"Lost your appetite?"
Nancy frowned in disbelief, "How could that be? Before you went to college, we almost always ate this late..."
Henry stood up impatiently, "I just don't want to eat, you guys enjoy. I'm going upstairs to pack."
"Henry..."
Nancy wanted to say more, but Henry had already turned and left, his sulking figure casting a shadow over her mood.
What's going on?
From the moment she saw Henry today, she felt something was off about him, acting like a child throwing a tantrum.
Could it be... that time of the month?
Impossible!
She hesitated, wondering whether to follow and ask, but Charlie held her hand.
"Nan, it's okay. He might just not want to eat. You eat yours. We can go find him after you're done."
Nancy was indeed hungry, and with snacks and lots of fruits at home, plus the option for Maid Heather to buy some desserts later, Henry wouldn't starve.
"Alright."
She nodded and continued to eat.
Charlie smiled, picking up the serving chopsticks to serve the two boys.
"Heather's specialty is drunken shrimp. Give it a try."
The two boys were excited beyond measure, eagerly bringing their bowls forward.
With greasy mouths, they looked at Charlie, excitedly laughing, "Thank you, brother-in-law!"
