Nancy looked at Micheal, her amber eyes growing increasingly bright. After a moment, she softly chuckled, "Hehe... Young Master Micheal, so all that about being a fan was something you made up, right? Your real reason for getting close to me was because of that book?"
"That's not true."
Micheal dropped his frivolous demeanor, becoming serious, "I didn't know about the book initially. I was merely curious why you could weave lover's knots."
"Now that I know, I hope you can show me the book. If it turns out to be from my Thompson family, please return it and swear never to weave any of the knots described in it again."
"Micheal, don't push your luck!"
Henry immediately exploded, standing protectively in front of Nancy as if Micheal would physically harm her, full of a protective instinct.
"That book has always been in our family. Regardless of whether it's from your Thompson family or not, since it's in our house, it belongs to us. What right do you have to claim it? And what right do you have to demand my sister to swear anything?"
Linda, witnessing Henry's sudden outburst, felt a surge of admiration, "Oh, my little brother, so manly!"
She gazed at Henry like a star-struck fan but then quickly composed herself, glaring at Micheal.
"Henry is right! Micheal, you really are unreasonable. The book wasn't stolen or taken by force by Nan from your Thompson family. It's been in Nan's house for as long as she can remember. Even if there's a Thompson name on the cover, it only proves that someone from your Thompson family had a hand in it. It doesn't prove it belongs to your family!"
She huffed indignantly, "What, just because my uncle built these houses, does it mean he can take them back whenever he wants just because the neighborhood is named after him?"
Micheal looked extremely uncomfortable. After Henry and Linda's argument, he understood their point.
However, the situation had evolved beyond his expectations. His family elders were not yet aware of this, and if they found out, they would undoubtedly demand the book's return, probably not as politely as he had.
His intention was actually to protect Nancy.
"Cough cough..."
He coughed forcefully, masking his embarrassment as they all glared at him united in their anger. With a resigned gesture, he said, "Nancy, if I say I'm trying to protect you, would you believe me?"
Nancy remained silent, her expression speaking volumes.
Suddenly, someone appears out of nowhere, demanding something you own, claiming it's for your protection. Who would believe that?
Henry and Linda looked at Micheal with utter disdain, "Believe you? No way!"
"Ah, how can you not believe me?"
Micheal was clearly frustrated, realizing his words might have been presumptuous. He sighed deeply, looking earnestly at Nancy, "I have just one request – to see that book. Nancy, I hope you can agree on that!"
