Eva's face turned slightly unpleasant. After all, with her status, being scolded at the entrance of the Firth Family's residence by the Firth Family's maid was a blow to her dignity.
"Maid Heather, I just want to see Nancy. It's a matter of life and death; please convey my message!" Eva pleaded.
Maid Heather, not one to be easily intimidated, retorted, "How does a life-and-death situation concern the Firth Family or our young mistress? You should be pleading with the doctors at the hospital, not causing a scene at the Firth Family's doorstep. It's quite laughable!"
Eva struggled to contain her anger, but her tone inevitably revealed her frustration. "My father-in-law is lying in the ICU. Only Nancy can save him now!"
"Heh!"
Maid Heather gave her a disdainful look. "Our young mistress is not a doctor. Even if she were, it would depend on her mood whether she wants to save someone or not. And you know, I heard from the young master that you berated our young mistress at the hospital. Now you're here causing more trouble. Weren't you satisfied with your outburst at the hospital?"
Eva's breath hitched, nearly overwhelmed by Maid Heather's sharp words.
She had never realized Maid Heather could be so cutting.
She knew she had to swallow her pride, or Old Master Lesser might be beyond help.
Taking a deep breath, her voice softened, tinged with desperation, "Maid Heather, I know I've had my disagreements with the Firth Family, but this time, it's truly urgent. Please, let me see Nancy. My father-in-law is in a critical condition!"
Eva was known for her pride, and Maid Heather was well aware of this.
Eva had never even acknowledged the servants in the Firth Family before.
Yet, she was now begging Heather. Despite Heather's resentment towards Eva, she thought of the senior man lying in the hospital and what wrong he had done.
"Alright... okay..."
Maid Heather relented. "Wait here. I'll go inside and inform the young mistress. If she agrees to see you, then you may enter."
"Thank you."
Eva responded, though Maid Heather didn't pay heed to her gratitude and went inside.
"Lady, Eva wants to see you. She says only you can save her father-in-law," Heather conveyed the message to Henry.
Henry sneered sarcastically, "Now she realizes only my sister can save him? What was her attitude in the hospital?"
Charlie's expression darkened too, but he remained silent, looking towards Nancy.
While Nancy was concerned about the old man's condition, she was also upset by Eva's behavior at the hospital.
"I won't see her! I'm not omnipotent. If I succeed, fine, but if I fail, I'll be condemned by the Lesser family for life," Nancy decided.
Maid Heather nodded and immediately turned to inform Eva of Nancy's decision.
Eva understood that Nancy was still angry with her.
"Maid Heather, please, let me in. I'll talk to her."
"No."
Maid Heather blocked the door. "The Firth Family does not welcome you. Without the young master or young mistress's permission, I cannot let you in!"
With Nancy still furious and no hope of Charlie letting her in, Eva, in desperation, reached out, grabbed Maid Heather's arm, and pushed her aside.
"Hey! What are you doing? Eva, you can't go in. If you do, I'll call the police and accuse you of trespassing!"
