Chapter 598: You Are the Only One I Have Wronged!

Just as she finished speaking, Charlie's face darkened.

"How do you know Nan can't help me in business? This new product was improved by Nan adjusting our program data, and Nan's achievements in medicine and her connections have been a great help to me..."

He said, his lips curving into a self-mocking smile, "Why am I even explaining this to you? Think whatever you want!"

Eva Luther looked at Charlie, hurt apparent in her eyes. She actually wished Charlie would talk more to her, even if it was to speak on behalf of Nancy Swinton; she was willing to listen.

But Charlie stopped halfway, not wanting to continue. How much must he hate her in his heart?

Nancy watched the awkward mother and son with a sense of helplessness, thinking perhaps in this world, only Charlie and Eva could be like enemies upon meeting.

She smiled briefly, then quickly changed the subject to break the awkwardness.

"The second question, we want to know, when did you meet Quentin? Was it before or after you married Charlie's father?"

Asking this was quite offensive for someone younger.

Under normal circumstances, Eva wouldn't even acknowledge Nancy, but now, for Old Master Lesser, she had to answer.

As if recalling something sad, Eva's eyes dimmed. She took a deep breath and slowly said, "I knew him before marrying Edward Firth."

Seeing the surprised looks on Nancy and Charlie's faces, she shrugged and gave a mocking laugh, "Don't look at me like that. Actually, Edward Firth and Quentin knew each other."

"What?"

"Ah?"

Charlie and Nancy looked at Eva even more shocked. This news was incredibly astounding for them!

Eva nodded, "Not only did they know each other, but the three of us were also university classmates. Edward Firth and Quentin even shared a dorm room."

Charlie, "!!!"

Nancy, "!!!"

This was utterly unexpected!

The past events seemed much more complicated now.

Charlie felt so emotionally entangled, as if his heart was tightly encased in yarn, with Eva holding the end of the thread. A slight tug from her could cause him immense pain.

Such melodramatic plots were common in novels and TV dramas, but this was the last thing Charlie wanted to experience!

Nancy's lips moved slightly, about to ask more, but Eva suddenly raised her hand to stop her.

"Nancy, don't ask any further. Even if you do, I won't tell you. And the past is in the past. All I want now is for Charlie to be well."

"Is it in the past?"

Charlie's lips curved into a mocking smile, "Yes, my dad has been dead for over twenty years, and you've been married to Quentin for over twenty years. For you, my dad is just the past, huh..."

Eva, looking at Charlie's mocking yet sorrowful face, clenched her fingers at her side.

Her heart ached, and suddenly she couldn't hold back. She grasped the arms of the sofa tightly and said excitedly, "Charlie, the past isn't what you think. Really, I, Eva, may not be noble, but I swear, I've never wronged Edward. In this world, you are the only one I have wronged!"
