Old Master Firth's sudden gasp made Nancy's heart tighten. "Grandpa, what's wrong?"
Old Master Firth looked at her, puzzled. "Logically, even you don't know where your mother's grave is, and her only sister had a terrible relationship with her. So, why is the grave so clean, looking like it's regularly maintained? Even the flowers seem to have been placed there not too long ago."
"Huh?"
Nancy didn't quite understand. "Flowers?"
"Yes!"
James Firth nodded. "Nan, The Northern Cemetery doesn't allow burning paper. You can only offer fruits and flowers. When I found the grave, the fruits were still there, and the flowers hadn't wilted completely. It seems like someone visited recently."
"What?"
Nancy blinked in surprise. "So, someone recently visited my mother's grave?"
"Pretty much..."
James Firth thought for a moment and then shook his head. "But the grave has been there for a long time. It looks well-maintained. I think it hasn't just been visited recently; it must have been visited regularly."
Nancy fell silent.
Charlie gently held her small hand. "Nan, does your mother have any other relatives besides Lily Dench?"
Nancy lowered her gaze, biting her lip in disappointment. "I've only known about my mother's past for a short time. Besides what Lily told me, I know very little about her. As for relatives... Lily has no contact with any, so I have no idea if my mother had any."
That wasn't helpful at all!
Even Nancy found it somewhat laughable. "Heh... Was my mother someone important? Seriously! They make her seem so mysterious. I just don't understand. What happened back then that made Lily hate my mother so much and made my father disappear for over twenty years!"
Everyone present wanted to know the answer!
And in the center of that secret whirlpool was undoubtedly Andrew Lesser!
Though Andrew lost his memory twenty years ago, forgetting his identity as the eldest son of the Lesser family, he was still a distinguished figure. His connection with Nancy's mother must have been significant, given that he adopted Nancy despite everything.
"Nan."
Charlie squinted his eyes, speaking deeply, "Lily hates you so much, despises you. Why did Andrew adopt you? Normally, as my wife, anyone you dislike, I would avoid to keep you from being sad. What reason would Andrew have to adopt you, even at the cost of his marriage with Lily?"
Mark Firth clapped his hands. "Exactly! Charlie is right! Any man wanting a peaceful life would have a strong survival instinct and wouldn't do anything to upset his wife. But Andrew's adoption of you clearly crossed Lily's line. Nan, since your mother has no other relatives in this world, I believe Andrew must be the one visiting her grave regularly!"
All things considered, Andrew is the most likely person to have been visiting Rose Dench's grave regularly!
Nancy's fingers intertwined, gripping tightly until they turned pale. "But... my father... he lost his memory, forgetting everything from the past twenty years, and... ever since he woke up, he's been in Liverton."
