Amelia was stunned, her eyes wide with surprise as she stared at Nancy. Her reaction made Nancy think she had misunderstood.
But just as Nancy was about to say something to ease the awkwardness, Amelia sighed, "Yes, you guessed right. I did like Hugh..."
She paused, her fingers gently brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"For so many years, I've never met anyone better than him. So handsome and talented."
When she mentioned Hugh, her eyes sparkled with a light that only someone deeply in love would have.
Nancy, however, was not interested.
That man named Hugh had abandoned her mother and her. To Nancy, he was nothing but a scoundrel!
Without saying another word, Nancy turned and left without hesitation.
"Nancy, Nancy..."
Alexander followed her out. When he tried to reach for Nancy's arm again, Henry slapped his hand away without hesitation.
"I've told you that if you want to talk, just talk. Don't touch my sister!"
Alexander looked at Henry, standing protectively beside Nancy like a knight, and couldn't help but laugh awkwardly.
"Henry, your sister and I are friends. You don't have to be so hostile towards me..."
"Tch..."
Henry sneered disdainfully, "There's no such thing as pure friendship between men and women. Alexander, save your tricks for fooling women; they don't work on me!"
Alexander grew defiant, "Why can't there be pure friendship between men and women? Henry, you're young, but your thoughts are quite complicated!"
"You..."
"Enough, Henry."
Nancy interrupted Henry, nodding politely at Alexander, "Young Master Caine, thank you for today. If there's ever anything you need, don't hesitate to ask."
With that, she beckoned Henry and Linda to follow her and walked away.
Alexander wanted to chase after her again, but doing so would seem too persistent, and Nancy would surely despise him for it.
Moreover, that boy Henry was incredibly annoying, guarding against him like a thief.
However, since he had helped Nancy with such a significant issue today, things would be easier in the future.
"What are you still looking at? She's already gone."
Amelia's teasing voice came from behind.
Alexander continued to stare in the direction Nancy had left, a grateful smile on his lips, "Aunt Amelia, thank you for today."
Amelia walked over to Alexander's side, looking at his handsome profile and shaking her head, "Alexander, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. Why obsess over just one flower?"
Alexander shifted his gaze from the distance to Amelia, his eyes twinkling with amusement, "Aunt Amelia, you know why."
His words left Amelia speechless.
She was advising Alexander with such nice words, but wasn't she in the same situation herself?
She smiled and shook her head, "This Nancy really inherited her parents' strong genes, causing so much trouble."
Suddenly, her expression tightened, and she instinctively grabbed Alexander's arm, "But Alexander, Nancy is going to marry Charlie in a few days. Are you really going to crash the wedding?"
