Arthur was completely confused by the question. "Hugh Thompson? Who's Hugh Thompson?"
Micheal was fuming. "I don’t know which gossip told Nancy that her biological father is named Hugh Thompson, but there’s no such person in the Thompson family! When I mentioned it to Nancy just now, she got really angry, saying that Hugh didn’t even tell her mom his real name, calling him a scumbag."
Honestly, that was pretty scummy!
Being with someone, even having a child together, and not revealing your real name—it sounded like the behavior of a con artist.
Arthur’s old face turned bright red, and his head started to hurt.
"Micheal, the thing is… you know the Thompson family names all have three characters. Where would we get a two-character name?"
Micheal spread his hands in frustration. "Exactly! That’s why I’m so upset! Grandpa, what do we do now? Nancy seems to have a huge grudge against her biological father. If we can’t find him, she’s probably not going to acknowledge her roots with the Thompson family."
Actually, Micheal thought that even if they found the guy, Nancy likely still wouldn’t acknowledge the family.
He could tell that Nancy deeply resented her biological father.
Arthur didn’t say anything, but he was even more troubled than Micheal.
Given his current health, he didn’t know how much longer he could hold on. He desperately wanted Nancy to acknowledge her family now, so when the time came for him to pass, he could rest easy knowing he had fulfilled his duty to the ancestors of the Thompson family.
Seeing Arthur’s silence only made Micheal more anxious. "Grandpa, say something! What should we do? It’s not that I can’t complete this task—it’s just too hard! You have to think of something!"
A solution?
If Arthur had a solution, he would’ve shared it already...
When Arthur still didn’t respond, Micheal’s eyes suddenly narrowed as he scrutinized him.
"Grandpa, you don’t already know who Nancy’s biological father is, do you?"
"How could I possibly know?"
Arthur raised his eyebrows and glared angrily, shouting, "If I knew, I would’ve sent someone to fetch Nancy ages ago! Why would I need you to slowly coax her?"
"Heh..."
Micheal gave a sarcastic laugh. "If you don’t know, then why are you so sure that Nancy is part of the Thompson family?"
"You big fool!"
Arthur exploded in rage. "Didn’t we do a paternity test? It’s been confirmed she has a blood relation to us! That’s enough proof! We just haven’t found her biological father yet! But the blood relation is already established, so what are you questioning? Do you really think I would keep it from you if I knew?"
Well, it wasn’t entirely out of the question…
Micheal knew all too well that The thompson family, especially his grandfather, cared deeply about appearances and was highly protective of their own. If they did know who Nancy’s biological father was, but for some reason, it wasn’t convenient for him to acknowledge her right now, they’d definitely cover it up and lie about it.
But Micheal didn’t dare challenge Arthur’s authority. He could only pout and grumble in dissatisfaction.
"Alright, fine. Grandpa, please check again and see if anyone has ever used the name Hugh. I’m off to pick out a gift for Nancy."
"A gift?"
Arthur was taken aback. "What gift? Why are you giving her a gift?"
Micheal rolled his eyes in exasperation. "Charlie and Nancy are getting married, Grandpa! I…"
