Chapter 707: In-laws, In-laws...

However, the fame and fortune that others so deeply coveted were of no interest to Nancy.

"If that’s all they want, they can leave now."

"What?"

Linda’s eyes nearly popped out of her head in shock. "Nan, think about it! This is the Thompson family we’re talking about! Do you know the Thompson family is so rich, money is all they have left?"

That kind of wealth would make anyone envious!

Linda couldn’t understand why Nancy wasn’t even the slightest bit tempted.

Nancy shook her head and turned to face the vanity mirror, calmly tidying the loose strands of hair by her ears. "I don’t care about that. Besides, if it’s not earned by my own hands, I’ll never feel secure about it. In other words, if the Thompson family wants to recognize me today, they’ll give me the highest honor. But if they decide not to recognize me one day, they’ll take it all back."

It’s better to never have it than to lose it after gaining it.

Nancy was the epitome of clear-headed wisdom.

Linda bit her lip, feeling convinced by Nancy’s words. She turned to Charlie, "Mr. Firth, it seems Nan has made up her mind..."

"Alright, I understand."

Charlie didn’t say much and simply walked out of the room.

By this time, the Thompson family had already gathered on the lawn of the banquet.

Arthur looked around, seemingly searching for something.

Micheal stepped forward and whispered from behind him, "Grandfather, the bride will only come out once the wedding starts."

"Oh, right, right."

His eyes continued to scan the area, but he couldn’t spot Charlie anywhere.

Micheal pointed toward another area, "Grandfather, why don’t you go have a chat with Old Master Firth?"

Arthur, feeling quite nervous himself, had picked up on the sense of resentment Nancy held against the Thompson family from Micheal’s tone.

The moment he heard about Charlie’s grandfather, his mind began calculating, and with great excitement, he made his way toward Old Master Firth.

“In-laws! In-laws…”

Old Master Firth was seated on a chair, as his legs weren’t in great condition, preventing him from standing for long. A crowd of people surrounded him, offering flattering comments and praise. After all, Charlie was the star of the day, leaving little time to chat with everyone personally.

So, they swarmed around Old Master Firth, their words as sweet as honey. Although Old Master Firth felt irritated, he couldn’t exactly show it.

When Arthur arrived, he raised his cane and, without hesitation, shooed away the group gathered around Old Master Firth. Some people wanted to get angry, but when they turned and saw Arthur followed by dozens of people, their tempers quickly subsided. They had no choice but to step aside obediently.

Arthur approached Old Master Firth, completely ignoring his bewildered expression, and immediately grabbed his hand.

"In-laws! You’re looking great! It’s true that joyous events lift the spirit. Your complexion is amazing! Your skin is as smooth as a peeled egg, and your eyes are so bright!"

The two girls standing behind Old Master Firth, Charlie’s cousins, were dumbfounded by Arthur’s words. Their jaws nearly dropped.

Who was this guy?

His flattery was absurdly off the mark!

Describing a seventy-year-old man’s skin as smooth as a peeled egg—was he blind?

The corners of the Thompson family members' mouths twitched visibly, but without hesitation, they encircled Arthur and Old Master Firth, forming a protective ring around them.
