Chapter 714: You Know Hugh?

Judging by how eager the Thompson family was to acknowledge Nancy, even if she didn’t want to recognize them now, they would continue to flatter her until she did.

Why did it seem like all the good things in the world were reserved for Nancy alone?

Nancy didn’t care what others thought. Her heart was full of sweetness right now. The Lesser family and the Thompson family meant nothing to her. Only Charlie and the people of the Firth family were truly her family.

The wedding ceremony wasn’t too complicated, adopting the traditional Henriana elements, so the bride wasn’t required to come out and toast the guests.

Once the ceremony ended, Nancy was escorted back to her room, her head still covered with the wedding veil.

No one expected Nancy to show up briefly and then disappear again. Alexander Caine couldn’t help but twitch his eyebrows at the sight.

"How afraid is Charlie of someone stealing Nancy? Keeping her hidden like this is a bit lacking in grace."

Amelia Blake, sitting beside him, heard his muttering and chuckled softly. "You can’t blame him. Now that the Thompson family is eyeing Nancy, and Andrew wants to claim her as his daughter, coupled with her stunning beauty, if I were her man, I’d keep her hidden too."

Alexander had thought of many ways to approach Nancy, but with her out of sight, he couldn’t exactly barge in!

He cast a gloomy glance at Amelia Blake and remained silent.

Amelia continued eating her meal with a smile. Halfway through, she suddenly picked up her glass and stood up. Alexander quickly grabbed her hand. "Aunt Amelia, where are you going?"

Amelia gently patted his shoulder. "I initially thought Hugh Thompson would attend Nancy’s wedding, but since he hasn’t shown up, I need to ask around about him. You stay here; I’ll go on my own."

She had long heard of the Thompson family’s arrogance, and Alexander, being her junior, needed some protection.

Holding her wine glass elegantly, Amelia walked over to where Arthur was sitting, who was brooding, still calculating in his mind.

"Mr. Thompson…"

A soft, feminine voice sounded beside him. Arthur glanced at her from the corner of his eye but didn’t respond.

A flicker of embarrassment crossed Amelia’s face, but she quickly hid it. She slightly bowed, lowering her posture as much as possible.

"Mr. Thompson, I used to work with Hugh Thompson. It’s been twenty years since we last met. I was wondering how he’s doing these days?"

Arthur, already irritated, frowned when she mentioned Hugh, finally turning to look at her. "You know Hugh?"

Amelia’s face lit up with joy, nodding repeatedly. "Yes, we worked together for a while, but it’s been many years. I just wanted to know how he’s doing now."

Arthur licked his lips, his tone becoming more patient. "What does Hugh look like? Any distinctive features?"

This question left Amelia somewhat puzzled. She tilted her head, looking at Arthur’s profile with surprise. "Mr. Thompson, don’t you know Hugh?"

"Obviously not!"

Arthur shot her a glare. "If I knew which junior of the Thompson family Hugh was, I would’ve dragged him here today to kneel in front of Nancy and apologize!"

Amelia blinked in shock, clearly taken aback, but she didn’t say anything further. After a quick glance around, a sly smile crept onto her face.

"Heh… It seems like Rose’s fickleness back then, juggling both Hugh and Andrew, broke Hugh’s heart. That’s probably why he refuses to acknowledge Nancy as his daughter."
