Beautiful girls are adored by both men and women alike.
Linda’s eyes curved into a happy smile as she looked at the server. “Miss, I heard there’s an auction here every day, right?”
“Yes, that’s right,”
The server responded with a smile. “But please, call me Ashley. However, there’s a rule to participate in the auction—you must provide proof of at least ten million in assets, or else…”
She shrugged playfully, leaving the rest unsaid, but the meaning was clear to all three of them.
In any other place, such a statement might have come across as condescending. But with Ashley’s friendly expression, Nancy and her friends didn’t feel any discomfort at all.
Just then, a mocking voice came from behind them. “Well, isn't this Nancy? The Thompson family wants to acknowledge you, but you refuse, and now you need to prove your assets just to join an auction?”
Nancy and her companions turned around to see Vivian and Taylor Lesser walking toward them, arm in arm.
Linda’s face scrunched up the moment she saw them, and she shouted, “Vivian, what are you so smug about? Did you not need to show proof of assets to join the auction?”
Vivian’s once-smug face instantly darkened. Taylor, not wanting to be outdone, snorted, “Of course, we provided proof. We’re not part of the Thompson family. But Nancy? On her wedding day, the Thompson family practically begged her to acknowledge them, and she refused. I thought she had more confidence than this. Hmph… Could it be she can’t even come up with a million?”
Linda was about to retort, but Nancy caught her wrist.
Calmly, Nancy opened her bag, ready to take out her wallet when, suddenly, Ashley stepped back and bowed deeply, a full ninety degrees.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize you were Miss Nancy! Please forgive my rudeness earlier.”
“Huh?”
Nancy looked at her in surprise. “What’s going on? Why are you bowing like this? Stand up, stand up.”
She reached out to help Ashley up, but the server stepped back again, avoiding her hand. “Miss Nancy, I’m terribly sorry. The owner has instructed us that whenever you visit, you never need to show proof of assets, and a private room is always reserved for you. As for any expenses in the store…”
Before Ashley could finish, Linda burst into laughter.
“Hahahahaha… hahahaha…”
Linda was laughing so hard she could barely stand, clinging to Nancy’s arm for support to keep herself upright.
“Vivian, what were you just saying? Hahaha… this is killing me!”
Vivian’s face turned red, then pale. She never expected that, despite Nancy being so harsh to the Thompson family, they would still go out of their way to please her!
How could anyone be so thick-skinned?
Taylor also felt a sting of embarrassment. They had just mocked Nancy, and now this blasted server had completely undermined them. It was infuriating!
“Sis, let’s go! I don’t want to waste time here watching someone get smug over nothing!”
Taylor grabbed Vivian’s hand and stormed up the stairs to the second floor, moving so fast it was as if they were being chased by dogs.
“Hahaha…”
Linda was laughing so hard she was nearly gasping for air.
Nancy shook her head and walked over to help Ashley up. “Alright, if you keep acting so terrified, we’re going to leave.”
