The woman’s extreme thoughts revealed just how cornered she felt—desperation could indeed push people to unimaginable lengths.
Life was like this sometimes. When driven to the brink, people could do anything.
"Ma’am," Nancy began calmly, "your husband already bought that raw stone. I think you should at least let him open it before deciding whether or not to kill him. What if it turns out to be valuable? If you kill him now, wouldn’t your family’s lives be lost for nothing?"
The woman clenched her teeth in rage. "He’s lost every single time he’s gambled—he’s never won! And even if it’s valuable, so what? He’ll just keep gambling until every penny is gone again. It’s a vicious cycle! I might as well kill him now and save society the trouble!"
What an awful situation.
Nancy furrowed her brows. "If you know he’s addicted to gambling, why didn’t you divorce him earlier?"
The woman froze for a moment, and then broke into fresh, heart-wrenching sobs. "I’ve tried! But with our son sick, it’s been impossible. This disaster of a man refuses to divorce me. When we go to court, he either disappears or comes up with some excuse to avoid the hearing. We’ve been fighting over this for years—I just can’t take it anymore!"
Nancy could tell the woman wasn’t lying. These weren’t mere angry words; she was genuinely at the end of her rope, completely worn down by her husband.
What a detestable man.
Nancy turned to Jason. "How much did you pay for that raw stone?"
Jason immediately hugged the stone tightly to his chest. "I spent 600,000 on this! Don’t even think about taking it from me!"
Nancy smirked, her lips curling in a mocking smile. "How about this: I’ll give you 6 million. You divorce her and give her 3 million. The remaining 3 million is for you—and the stone becomes mine."
Six million?!
The onlookers gasped in unison.
Winning anything in jade gambling was already considered fortunate. Earning ten times the investment? That was practically unheard of—like the heavens themselves had intervened.
Ashley was equally stunned. Just moments ago, Nancy had been frugal while picking stones, reluctant to spend more than necessary. And now she was offering 6 million for a single raw stone?
But as the shock subsided, Ashley couldn’t help but admire Nancy from the bottom of her heart.
She understood that Nancy wasn’t paying 6 million for the raw stone itself. She was doing it to help the woman escape this toxic marriage and secure funds for her son’s treatment and her future.
Jason’s suspicion was evident as he frowned. "Are you serious?"
"I am."
Nancy nodded. "The custody of your son goes to her, and you give her 3 million. With the remaining 3 million, as long as you don’t gamble it away, you’ll have enough to live comfortably for a long time."
Jason barely hesitated. Clutching the raw stone as if afraid Nancy would change her mind, he shoved it into her hands. "Deal! Give me the money right now!"
Nancy placed the stone into her cart, and then spoke calmly. "I’ll give you 1 million upfront. Once you’ve finalized the divorce, I’ll transfer the rest."
The woman, seeing Jason agree to the divorce so readily, burst into tears of gratitude. She fell to her knees, clutching Nancy’s legs. "Thank you! Thank you so much… I can’t thank you enough!"
