"Bruce, since you claimed that Freya was retarded, I let her get married to Bradley. I can't believe this knucklehead has the audacity to plot against us now," After being repeatedly thrown off by Bradley, Arthur exploded.
During a previous conversation, Bruce mentioned his intellectually disabled daughter living in the countryside. Bruce intentionally mentioned that there was a curse on Freya that could supposedly control Bradley's destiny. Arthur has Freya marry Bradley to confuse him and bully him. They never expected Freya to cause such havoc for the Austin family and even target Ethan.
They were unsure if Freya was really intellectually challenged or if Ethan was simply too foolish and easily manipulated.
Bruce asserted, "She truly is a fool. Her foster family in the countryside can testify to it." He didn't understand the root of the problem, but he had to cooperate with Arthur and avoid angering him.
Annoyed and restless, Arthur warned, "You better not have deceived me, or else you'll face severe consequences."
Bruce, with a forced smile, replied, "Of course."
"Enough! You can enter the Royal Garden Mansion now since I've taken care of all the details. Now it's up to you," Arthur said, letting those words fall as he dragged Ethan away.
Arthur had no idea how his son got involved with the Lawson family, but he knew it really infuriated him.
…
Bradley was lounging in his study, hands crossed, on a black leather chair in front of a laptop. There was no emotion on his exquisitely handsome face, not even a trace of a smile.
His focus was fixed on the surveillance video from the shopping mall.
Freya went into a clothing store and ran into Ethan and Lola. He couldn't hear them, but he could tell by their facial expressions, especially Ethan's, that he was making fun of Freya.
Freya started rummaging through the store and knocking over clothing racks out of nowhere. Freya went into several stores, and Ethan followed her inside each one.
As she walked away, a group of shopkeepers swarmed Ethan and demanded he pay.
Bradley's sensual thin lips, seeing this scene, curled involuntarily.
His new wife was, indeed, a fool, but her foolishness belied her ingenuity.
She was able to deceive the store clerks into demanding money from Ethan, which was not something people with her intelligence could achieve.
Bradley's gaze turned cold, and he lightly tapped the table with his slender fingers, seeming lost in thought.
Freya's entry into the Royal Garden Mansion under Arthur's arrangement initially raised Bradley's concerns about her potential to be manipulated.
It appeared, however, that Bradley's previous suspicions were groundless.
He had the impression that this girl was quite clever despite her apparent lack of sophistication.
There was a knock on the door as he was thinking, and Frederick walked in.
"Mr. Austin, I've done the research. Mrs. Austin went clothes shopping and told everyone that her boyfriend was Ethan from the Austin family. The shopkeepers took her word for it and asked Ethan to pay for the things she bought. They called the police on Ethan when he refused to pay, and he was taken to the police station."
The story even surprised Frederick.
Frederick had never expected Freya to effortlessly manipulate Ethan, leading him directly to the police station. It was truly astonishing.
Bradley said with a smile slowly forming on his lips, "Alright, I understand," as he continued to watch the surveillance footage.
"There is one more thing. Arthur brought Ethan here, but the security guards stopped them at the entrance. Do you want to meet with them?" Frederick cautiously inquired.
"Not necessary," Bradley replied coldly.
"Yes, Mr. Austin."
Frederick left to deal with the visitors as instructed by Bradley. However, just as he was about to leave, Bradley told him, "Go to the Luiville Village now. I want to know everything about Freya's past seven years, including why she became intelligently challenged," Bradley commanded.
"Yes, Mr. Austin."
Meanwhile, Freya sat on the sofa in her room, looking at the new dress she had just bought.
Bradley's suspicion towards her was evident, but it didn't bother her.
She would always be seen as a fool no matter how much he investigated.
For the past seven years, she had played the role of a fool, intentionally appearing stupid to everyone so she had no fear of being exposed. However, she could clearly sense that Bradley's attitude towards her was changing.
Although Bradley had always been kind to her in the past, his recent tone exhibited a slight indulgence that made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
She had married Bradley solely to seek revenge, and her plan did not include making him fall in love with her.
Once she accomplished her mission, she would leave this place, and the two of them would be strangers.
The next morning, Frederick personally went to Luiville Village.
Frederick was greeted by a middle-aged woman at the home of the Smiths, who had adopted Freya. This woman with tanned skin was intimidating due to her stern demeanor.
Frederick introduced himself as the butler of the Royal Garden Mansion and gave the Smiths some gifts, saying, "Hello, I am Frederick. Mr. Austin wanted to give you this token of his appreciation."
When Mrs. Smith learned that he was from the prestigious Royal Garden Mansion, she became very excited. "You must be Mr. Austin's butler. Please feel free to join us for some tea."
Frederick observed the humble cottage and cautiously stepped inside.
"Frederick, did Freya cause you any trouble? If she misbehaves, let me know, and I will teach her a lesson," Mrs. Smith threatened with an intense expression.
When Frederick heard about the cruel treatment Freya had received as a child, he wrinkled his brow in disbelief. Mrs. Smith appeared ready to take disciplinary action against Freya at any moment.
"Mrs. Smith, please don't say anything like that. Mrs. Austin takes excellent care of Mr. Austin," Frederick replied, his gaze piercing as he stared at Mrs. Smith.
Before Freya got married to Bradley, he had conducted an investigation into her background. He discovered that at twelve, Freya had been sent to the countryside, where she experienced mistreatment. Her subsequent illness led to her developing an intellectual disability.
Frederick's visit aimed to determine whether Freya's disability was genuine or merely an act.
"Well, that's reassuring to hear. That child seems a bit simple-minded. I am just concerned that she might unintentionally offend Mr. Austin," Mrs. Smith said with a friendly smile, though her eyes occasionally wandered towards the pile of gifts on the table.
She thought that Fredrick was indeed from a prestigious family as he generously offered them so many valuable gifts.
Frederick scanned the surroundings and asked, "I would like to understand the cause of Mrs. Austin's intellectual disability."
Mrs. Smith's eyes shifted uncomfortably, revealing a hint of unease.
If they were to discuss why Freya became intellectually challenged, they only needed to focus on her illness.
However, they didn't dare to reveal the truth, fearing potential trouble from the Austin family.
"Freya has always had a frail health. As a child, she suffered from a severe fever that affected her mental abilities," Mrs. Smith replied, carefully selecting her words.
"Has there been no improvement at all?" Frederick continued his inquiry.
Mrs. Smith shook her head. "No, we sought help from local doctors, but they claimed her condition was incurable."
However, Mrs. Smith was actually lying. Ever since Freya became mentally disabled, Mrs. Smith had treated her coldly and indifferently, showing no concern for her well-being.
Frederick nodded and said, "Alright, I understand. Thank you for your cooperation."
"Take care, and feel free to visit us more often," Mrs. Smith smiled, and Frederick politely smiled back before leaving.
As Frederick wandered around the village, he heard whispers about Freya's condition. Yet, many villagers were aware of Mrs. Smith's mistreatment towards her.
Frederick had not expected Mrs. Austin to have led such a miserable life before, living in a meager cottage and surviving on poor-quality food. He found Mrs. Smith's actions despicable.
Filled with anger, Frederick immediately called Bradley.
