Chapter 47 I Know She's Not Stupid

Bradley was at the Shangri-La Bar office right now.

He and Xavier had intended to go find Lexi themselves, but they were delayed by some unexpected events, so they returned to the bar and asked Patrick to see her.

Frederick called Bradley just now to tell him that Freya had gone to the HealWell Clinic.

He pondered why she had gone to the clinic and whether she was not feeling well.

Concerned, Bradley quickly grabbed his suit jacket, preparing to leave. Just as he was about to go, Patrick burst through the door, clearly out of breath from running.

"Bradley, I just saw your wife at the HealWell Clinic," Patrick gasped, trying to catch his breath. "I thought you should know."

Bradley's voice was cold as he responded, "I already know."

"But you don't know that your wife is the same girl who performed at the Shangri-La Bar a few days ago." Patrick now understood that the girl he had seen was Bradley's wife, but he still felt a twinge of unease. Despite his feelings for her, he knew he couldn't covet his friend's wife.

Bradley furrowed his brow, a hint of incalculable emotions shimmering in his narrow eyes. No one could decipher what he was thinking.

Finally, he asked, "What did you say?"

Patrick wasted no time and pulled up the video of the girl's performance from that day. “I asked the girl to perform at the bar the other day because I wanted her to meet you. I was hoping she could keep you company. But you left before she finished her performance. I dropped her home, and that's when I discovered her true identity. If I hadn't seen her at the HealWell Clinic today, I would have never known she was your wife."

Bradley stared at the screen. The first time he laid eyes on that girl, he couldn't help but feel that she resembled someone he knew. But hearing Patrick's words, the girl's image slowly merged with that of Freya's.

He also remembered her captivating singing voice...

Bradley closed his eyes, memories of the girl’s enchanting performance flooding back, the voice identical to Freya's.

"Bradley, you've truly found an extraordinary bride. Moreover, I suspect she's deliberately hiding something," Patrick asserted. He knew that if Freya was really that girl, then it meant that she was definitely feigning her condition.

"I am aware she is not ordinary," Bradley responded indifferently, his face devoid of any emotion. Since he had begun spending time with her, doubts about her had started creeping in, though he had not yet confronted her.

He wanted to understand her motive for pretending to have an intellectual disability.

“What? You let her remain by your side even if you knew she was pretending? Aren't you afraid that she’ll bring you? She might attack you just like the previous three women you married," Patrick cautioned.

"She is nothing like those women," Bradley replied.

Freya had been given to Bradley as a bride by Arthur. Bradley had previously investigated why Arthur had arranged this, discovering a business connection between Arthur and Freya's father. He learned that a girl in the Lawson family had been sent away to the countryside and was believed to have an intellectual disability.

Arthur decided to ask Bradley to marry Freya to suppress the curse that would otherwise befall his wife and other relatives.

However, if she was working for Arthur, Ethan would not have been treated so harshly. Growing up in the Lawson family, where she was consistently mistreated, Freya's life had been incredibly difficult, leaving her with no attachment or fondness for them.

Based on Bradley's observations, he could somewhat confirm that this girl was not under the control of the Lawson family or Arthur. However, whether she was an enemy or a friend remained a question that he needed to investigate further.

"Bradley, don't let her beautiful appearance deceive you. A woman's intentions can be as mysterious as the depths of the sea. Even if she is not working for Arthur, getting close to you could serve other ulterior motives," Patrick expressed his concerns without hesitation, seemingly forgetting the alluring beauty possessed by Freya.

"No matter what her intentions are, I will investigate and uncover the truth!" Bradley firmly closed his eyes. Despite knowing that she was pretending to have an intellectual disability, he found himself drawn to her. He had kept her secret and silently cooperated with her charade every day.

Apart from secretly treating her illness, no suspicious activities had been found in his recent investigations. Frederick reported her every move to him, and she had not had any contact with anyone.

This girl was an enigma. The more deeply involved Bradley became with her, the more he discovered her growing charm, slowly drawing him further in. She possessed an innocent beauty, appearing untouched by the harsh realities of the world.

"Bradley, you've fallen in love with her. This is not good," Patrick exclaimed. As he observed Bradley lost in thought with a foolish smile on his face, Patrick's jaw nearly dropped in astonishment.

Just then, Xavier entered the room. Upon seeing the video playing on the screen, he casually remarked, "Patrick, I can’t believe that you're still infatuated with that girl after such a long time."

Bradley's expression turned solemn at that moment as he glared coldly at Patrick and said, "What girl?"

"Please don't misunderstand, Bradley! I had no idea she was your wife back then. I was only interested in pursuing her. But now, even if I had ten times the courage, I wouldn't dare to mess with her," Patrick nervously swallowed, sensing the jealousy emanating from the usually stoic Bradley. He knew that any wrong move could be his last.

The crucial point was that Patrick had flirted with Freya on that particular day. If Bradley were to find out, it would be catastrophic.

Patrick firmly decided to keep his mouth shut. Otherwise, he would face severe consequences.

"Wife? Whose wife?" Xavier asked, confused by the conversation. He couldn’t believe how much he had missed when he only left the room for a short while.

"Don't you realize? That girl is Bradley's wife! She pretended to be simple-minded so that she could stay by his side!" Patrick told Xavier the truth.

Xavier stared at Patrick in shock as he was taken aback. "What? Is Bradley's wife the girl you've been with?"

Bradley's expression turned even darker, his face reflecting a mix of determination and vigilance, compelling Patrick to disclose every detail of their encounter that day.

Patrick then said, "I swear I only drove her home and didn't lay a finger on her."

A chill spread through the room as Bradley tapped his thin fingers on the table. He looked up at Patrick with a serious expression on his face and said sternly, "You better have already given up on her and stopped bothering her."

"I can't afford to provoke your woman! I don't want to become another Ethan and nearly killed by her." Patrick remembered the girl as sweet, but this new version of her was a crafty witch. He didn't dare risk angering her because he knew it would only backfire.

Xavier regarded Bradley's serious demeanor, a slight twitch appearing on his lips. "So, Bradley, are you really planning to keep her? Since she's feigning foolishness, it suggests that she approached you with an ulterior motive. I'm concerned that she may pose a threat to you."

"Rest assured, I will devise a means to test her loyalty. If she really approached me with hidden intentions, I would personally handle the situation," Bradley replied with unwavering determination.

Even Arthur and the rest of the Lawson family fell for Freya's bluff of stupidity. Clearly, she was no regular girl.

However, Bradley was curious why she chose to pretend to be foolish or what her true purpose was in staying by his side.

He decided that he would not permit her to leave Royal Garden Mansion until he unraveled these mysteries.

Furthermore, she had been covertly treating him with his illness, though he couldn't fathom why she would choose to do so.

A myriad of questions swirled in his mind, and he was resolute in finding answers, one by one.

Bradley stared intently at the dancing girl on the screen, his excitement building. A faint glimmer reflected within his eyes.

At that moment, he couldn't help but feel grateful that she had opted to feign intellectual challenges. Arthur would not have asked her to marry Bradley if she had not pretended to have such limitations.

He admitted that he had been attracted to the girl's magnetic presence ever since he first laid eyes on her.

Through their recent interactions, he also learned that she was hiding a lot from him. But he didn't mind, and he was ready to peel back the layers of mystery.

However, the fact that she had tricked him into believing she was intellectually challenged infuriated him. Since she had the nerve to play such a cruel joke on him, he decided to return the favour.
