Bradley carried Freya to the garden. Freya was about to comment that there was nothing nice to look at in a field of grass when she was stunned by what she saw. The garden was filled with colorful flowers.
"Do you like it?"
His thin lips were curved up in a smile as he observed her every reaction.
A couple of days ago, Frederick told him that Freya had been to the garden and asked why there were no flowers. He then had the garden redesigned, and it was only completed last night.
She liked flowers, so he planted a sea of flowers for her.
Everything followed her wishes. As long as he could win her over, she would not want to leave.
"I do, but this was just a piece of grassland when I came here a few days ago. Mr. Johnson said you don't like the smell of flowers."
Freya was just shocked. She had not expected Bradley to make such drastic changes.
He narrowed his eyes. "I'll try to like what you like."
That one sentence made Freya blush.
What did he mean by that? It sounded like a confession of love.
When she looked into his eyes, she found that there was a doting and indulgent glint in his black eyes.
He was doting on her.
Why?
He hadn't fallen in love with her, had he?
Freya could not get it. She watched as he grabbed her wrist and looked at her with solemn eyes as he said, "Freya, since you've married me, I will fulfil my duty as your husband. I want to spoil you."
That made her cheeks turn an even brighter shade of red. If he truly loved her, then she was doomed. How was she meant to force him into a divorce later on?
"I'm just a simple-minded woman."
She pretended to be a fool so that he would dislike her, but what he said next surprised her.
"I like fools!"
Freya stared at him for a very long time. What did he just say?
He liked fools? That was just another attempt to placate her.
His eyes were gentle and loving. It was strange. Freya had thought he was ugly before, but now he looked quite handsome.
Bradley had extremely exquisite features with a high nose and thin, red lips. If not for the two large burn scars on his face, he would absolutely be one of the most attractive men around.
Upon seeing her looking at him, he smiled. She really was different. No on in the city would dare scrutinize him with that look in her eyes.
People would shy away when they saw his face. Only this girl enjoyed staring at him.
As the cool evening breeze brushed past them, her hair fluttered in the wind while a faint fragrance filled the air. Bradley looked at her with affection and obsession shining in his eyes.
She was the first woman to make his heart flutter.
No, she was still a girl. She was not yet nineteen.
Freya could feel his burning and intense gaze trained on her. The unease she felt made her push him away in an attempt to leave his lap.
It was so embarrassing to be sitting on his lap.
"Don't move."
He wrapped his arms even tighter around her as he leaned in close to whisper, "If you behave, I won't touch you. Keep struggling, I can't promise that I won't lose control."
Freya dared not move again. She could sense the danger surging within him. Her face instantly turned red with embarrassment.
Not far away.
Frederick and Rosa were walking side by side when they found the couple bathed in the glow of the sunset. They smiled in contentment.
"Mr. Bradley really has changed," Rosa exclaimed.
Frederick nodded. "You didn't see how he flirted with Madam just now. He even said something about how brides are not allowed to touch the ground just so he can dote on her."
"Stop. There is such a custom a long time ago. They said that it was unlucky for brides to touch the ground when they are still newlywed."
"Madam doesn't count as a new bride, right?"
"They just received their certificate today. How is she not a bride?" Rose argued.
Frederick's face wrinkled as he let out a laugh. "You're right. They were reluctant to marry before, but now they willingly marry each other. Still, Rosa, do you think Madam is actually simple-minded?"
"That's not important. What's important is that her heart is kind."
Rose could clearly tell that Freya was not a fool. She had been paying a lot of attention to Freya lately. Freya really acted for Bradley's sake.
Whether or not she was simple-minded, Bradley's heart was as clear as glass. He had likely known about it a long time ago.
The air was filled with warmth in this house, but chaos still reigned at the Lawson Mansion.
Bruce went to beg Arthur for a second chance, but Arthur refused to even see him. Bruce was instantly thrown out of the office by the security guards.
Bruce was beside himself with frustration, so he went to a bar. He was drunk by the time he returned home, and went on a rampage, smashing things while beating up Sophie and Lola.
"Get out. Right now!"
Sophie sobbed. "Bruce, it's late at night. If you chase us out, where are we meant to stay?"
"I don't care. If you don't leave, I'll beat you to death," Bruce viciously threatened.
He had worked hard to secure the contract, but now it was gone because of Sophie's antics. Arthur had also blacklisted Lawson Corporation. There was no place left for him in this city.
Sophie knew just how ruthless Bruce could be when he was mad. Out of desperation, she said, "Bruce, give me a chance. I'll help you get the contract."
"How can you help with that brain of yours?" Bruce harshly glared at her. How he wished he could just strangle her.
He had never thought much of Sophie. If she had not pulled a few tricks to get in bed with him and got pregnant with his child, he would never have married her.
Looking back at the past, Charlotte was so much better. She was just as beautiful as Sophie and, more importantly, she had a brain for business. If Charlotte had not cheated on him, he would not have been so heartless.
Sophie gritted her teeth. "Freya is pretending to be a fool, right? We'll expose her lies. There's no way Arthur won't panic then. He will come to you to discuss about it then."
"You fool!" Bruce kicked her in anger. "You want me to tell Arthur that I've been lying to him the entire time? How can I survive then?"
Sophie's face was bruised and swollen from the kick. Hatred and regret filled her. The moment she had an opportunity, she would make him regret all he had done.
However, her only choice right now was to endure until the day Wilson was divorced.
"Bruce, you were fooled as well by Freya's act. We just need to add fuel to the fire by saying she is working with Bradley to take over the Austins. That will be our chance."
Bruce glared at her. Deep down, he understood that he had no other way out of this mess.
Arthur had always wanted to kill off Bradley. If he found out that Freya was not simple-minded and actually wanted to help Bradley, he would instantly be infuriated and panicked.
"However, we still need Lola's help for this." Sophie shot Lola a look.
"Mom, what do you want me to do?"
"Find Ethan and tell him about this. News will naturally reach Arthur then. You can also seize this chance to salvage your relationship," Sophie coldly stated.
