At the hospital.
Freya tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Her eyes opened and closed repeatedly, and she stared at her phone so intensely it seemed as if it would develop holes. Bradley still hadn't called to explain.
So, in that man's heart, she wasn't that important after all!
All his talk about missing her, about being there when she needed him, it was all bullsh*t.
Freya, feeling restless, ran her fingers through her hair and picked up her phone, ready to turn it off.
Ding!
A text message arrived before she could do so.
Freya held her breath. Could it be an explanation from Bradley?
With a heart full of hope, she slowly opened the message, only to be disappointed once again.
It wasn't from Bradley, but it was good news from Ella.
"Sweetheart, the Lawson Corporation can finally be closed down. I'll personally hold a board meeting this afternoon. Can you come?"
Freya quickly replied to the message.
"Okay, I'll be there."
Her revenge plan had reached its final stage. How could she miss such an important moment?
She was going to reclaim control of the Lawson Corporation and kick Bruce out of her life for good!
…
In the afternoon,
Madeline wheeled in a wheelchair and watched Freya changing clothes with some concern. "Your injury hasn't fully healed. Are you sure you want to go like this?"
"I'm fine now. Don't worry," Freya said as she finished dressing and put her phone in her bag.
From morning until now, her phone had been silent except for Ella's message.
She was mainly going out to deal with the mess at Lawson Corporation and to keep herself busy so she wouldn't think about Bradley.
Besides, her injury wasn't that serious. She had just caught a fever from getting soaked in the rain yesterday. She had been on a drip all night, and the fever had subsided.
Although Madeline was concerned, she knew that revenge had always been Freya's top priority, so she didn't try to dissuade her and simply escorted her to Lawson Corporation.
At this moment, Lawson Corporation was in chaos, and there was an atmosphere of unease within the company.
As Freya entered the elevator, she heard many people discussing about resignation.
When she arrived at the meeting room door, all the directors had already gathered, and Ella was currently holding the meeting.
Freya waited quietly outside. It wasn't the right time for her to show up yet.
While waiting, she couldn't help but turn on her phone and check for messages. However, there were only records from last night, so it seemed that Bradley had no intention of explaining anything to her.
Freya felt disappointed and angry once again, and she was about to turn off her phone.
"Excuse me, are you Miss Freya?"
Suddenly, a pleasant and gentle female voice sounded beside her. Freya looked up and saw a young girl standing in front of her.
Freya had seen her photo before; she was one of Ella's people inserted into Lawson Corporation.
She smiled faintly and said, "Yes, I am."
"Miss Ella asked me to take you to the lounge to rest first. She'll come to see you personally after the meeting." The girl's smile was very sweet, slowly unfolding like a flower bud, making people feel comfortable.
Freya nodded and followed her to the adjacent lounge. Linda brought her a cup of warm water and respectfully said,
My name is Linda, Miss Freya."
Linda, such a beautiful name alongside a beautiful appearance.
Freya had always trusted Ella's judgment in hiring, and this girl would be perfect as her assistant in the future.
Suddenly, there was a burst of anger from the adjacent meeting room, followed by the sound of a table being overturned.
Freya frowned. She was too familiar with this sound. Apart from her father, who was worse than a beast, who else could it be?
Linda comforted Freya's emotions and said, "Miss Freya, take a rest. I'll go check it out."
With that, she went out.
In fact, one could witness the scene outside from the window of the lounge. Bruce was causing a scene in the meeting room, even trying to attack Ella, only for her to retaliate by throwing him over her shoulder.
Freya couldn't be bothered to step outside. She had no desire to witness Bruce's repulsive demeanor. Instead, she found solace in sitting here, sipping water and indulging in pastries. How delightful!
Moreover, Ella, having been a former operative with exceptional skills, held no fear of fighting Bruce.
Bruce was evidently pushed to his limits, brandishing a knife and pointing it at Ella, issuing threats.
"As long as I'm alive, Lawson Corporation will remain under my control. I suggest you leave immediately, or today will end in chaos for everyone."
Ella sneered icily.
With a swift move, the small blade that had been in Bruce's grasp now found itself in Ella's hand, pressed against his neck.
"If you intend to end my life, I suggest you refine your skills first." Ella lightly scraped his neck, prompting Bruce's agonizing cry as his flesh was cut, blood seeping faintly.
"Had it not been for Freya's instructions, I would have ended you right here."
Upon hearing Freya's name, Bruce erupted in a frenzy, bellowing, "Where is that b*tch? Drag her out to me!"
Smack!
Ella's palm landed forcefully on his cheek as she spoke coldly, "Who are you calling a b*tch?"
The slap was not gentle. Bruce's lip began to bleed, and he staggered backward. He had not anticipated such an outcome.
Upon leaving the cemetery that day, he returned to the Lawson Family mansion only to find it sealed. Attempts to check into a hotel were thwarted when he learned his card had been frozen.
Overnight, he had plummeted from the esteemed Lawson Corporation CEO to a destitute beggar.
For the past two days, he had slept under a bridge, even resorting to scuffles with beggars over food.
And all of this was orchestrated by Freya.
This wretched woman schemed against him behind his back, reducing him to such a pitiful state, subject to humiliation like a commoner.
Consumed by hatred, he clenched his fists, ready to strike.
"Are you seeking me out?"
Just then, a slender figure appeared at the meeting room's entrance. Freya sat in a wheelchair, lips curled, a scornful smile in her eyes.
Having severed ties with her father, she no longer bothered to address him as such.
Even uttering his name now made Freya feel nauseous.
Witnessing her, Bruce's pupils dilated, and he charged at her furiously, shouting, "B*tch, you would allow outsiders to bully me? Do you still even consider me your father?"
As he spoke, his fist swung towards her.
However, before his hand could reach Freya, it was seized in mid-air.
Freya held his wrist, applying pressure, causing Bruce to grimace in pain.
Though Freya stood a head shorter than Bruce, her presence overshadowed his.
Arching an eyebrow, she sneered, "Mr. Lawson, don't forget, I've already publicly disowned you. Remember, I'm now Freya Barnes, and I have no association whatsoever with you, Bruce Lawson."
Bruce was momentarily stunned, his shocked eyes bloodshot.
"No, as long as your blood flows through your veins, I am still your father."
Freya continued to smile indifferently, as if watching a clown. Yet at this moment, she wished she could dig his heart out and see for herself.
She wished to discern whether his heart is truly tainted, and to understand why he could act so savagely.
However, fearing his tainted blood would soil her hands, she twisted his hand forcefully, dislocating it.
In an instant, the room resonated with the sound of an animal being slaughtered.
