Chapter 197 Peasant

Since Freya has always believed that she was insane, which conveniently served Lola's agenda during the Cloudstone's celebration. It provided her with the opportunity to exploit Jinny in her vendetta against Freya.

If the inevitable exposure would occur, she could easily feign madness, shielding herself from scrutiny.

"Lola, are you planning to use me?" Jinny scrutinized the invitation in her hand.

She glanced out of the window, catching sight of a figure clad in a white dress—a familiar face. "Is that Freya?" she inquired, observing the figure entering Splendor & Co..

"That's her." Lola responded through gritted teeth, her resolve unyielding. Even if reduced to ashes, she could identify her nemesis with unwavering certainty.

Recalling Freya's deceitful antics in the past, swindling Jinny out of millions, Lola decided to mirror her madness to teach her a lesson today.

"Jinny, we should also buy a set of jewellery to attend Cloudstone's celebration. Otherwise, if we dress too shabbily, we will be laughed at." Lola stood up, staring at Freya's distant figure, gritting her teeth.

This is her chance for revenge. Even if she doesn't take a piece of flesh off her, she won't let her off lightly.

As Freya crossed the threshold into Splendor & Co., Lola and Jinny stealthily trailed behind. In opulent jewellery emporiums like this, it is customary etiquette dictated to hold a prompt welcome for any arriving patron.

However, upon their entry, there was a conspicuous absence of attendants. All eyes were fixated on Freya, leaving the duo entirely unnoticed.

For Jinny, accustomed to the embrace of adulation from her aristocratic lineage, this stung her pride.

"Hello? Is there no one here?"

After a while, a staff member finally approached with an apology. "My apologies, ladies. We have a distinguished guest currently engaged in jewellery trials within. Until her departure, we are obliged to suspend all other services."

Incensed by this neglect, Jinny pointed an accusatory finger at the staff member. "Do you not recognise who I am?"

"I regret any inconvenience, but our directive mandates that this esteemed guest takes precedence." the staff member replied with practiced civility.

Jinny, dissatisfied with such treatment, retorted with defiance, "Is the 'esteemed customer' Freya Lawson?"

"Indeed, she now holds the title of our CEO's spouse." the staff member clarified.

The staff had received explicit instructions regarding the CEO's wife's visit, compelling them to prioritize her needs and defer others. Aware of Freya's dual role as both the partner of Bradley and the executive helm of Lawson Group, they could ill afford to show any disrespect.

"Incredible, isn't it? To think a mere village girl now parades around as the president's wife." Jinny seethed, hands firmly planted on her hips. "Regardless, I couldn't care less. I demand to peruse your jewellery selection now. Bring forth your most exquisite and expensive pieces."

"Apologies, but we cannot accommodate you at the moment." The salesperson retorted, their initial politeness waning in the face of the other's aggressive demeanour.

Jinny, consumed by fury, clenched her teeth and jabbed a finger at the salesperson. "Very well. If you dare to disregard me, I'll summon your manager immediately and have you terminated."

Splendor & Co. stood as the capital's premier jewellery establishment, yet it fell under the Austin family's domain. Jinny fancied herself a member of the Austin clan, practically a co-proprietor. Her arrogance knew no bounds.

"Miss Austin, I'm afraid you lack the authority to dismiss me. Our current focus is on serving the esteemed guest, the president's wife, as per the president's directive. If Miss Austin has any grievances, I suggest you take them up directly with the president."

The salesperson recognised Jinny, but with the decline of Arthur's fortunes, she amounted to little more than a fallen heiress. As for the woman beside her, she appeared to be the eccentric third daughter of the Lawson family. With Freya now at the helm of the Lawson family, the salesperson saw no reason to cater to them.

The mention of 'president's wife' coupled with the staff's disdainful glances and dismissive demeanour further incensed Jinny. The contrast between their once illustrious lineage and their current ignominy was stark.

Suddenly, Lola, who had maintained silence until now, erupted into laughter. With a swift motion, she pushed past the staff member blocking their path, clapping her hands with delight. "Hehe, Lola wants jewellery."

Jinny was stunned, but quickly grasped Lola's ruse. Following suit, she shoved aside the obstructing staff member, her chin held high as they forged ahead.

"Miss Lawson, Miss Austin, you must stop right there." The staff member attempted to interject, only to be rudely brushed aside by the determined duo. Losing her footing, she collided with a nearby jewellery display, emitting a pained gasp.

Splendor & Co.'s opulence spanned two floors, with the ground level housing moderately priced adornments, none falling below six figures. The upper tier, however, catered exclusively to the elite, boasting price tags that soared beyond the realms of affordability for most.

As Jinny and Lola ascended the staircase, they were met with the sight of staff lavishing fawning adulation upon Freya.

"Madam, this jewellery set, themed 'Eternal Love,' was personally curated by the renowned designer, Vivian, at the behest of the CEO. There is only one set in the world." one staff member gushed.

"The CEO has instructed that if it does not meet your satisfaction, alterations by Vivian herself can be arranged." another added.

A glint of malevolence flickered in Lola's eyes as she clenched her fists.

How could Freya, once a lowly peasant, now bask in such adoration like a princess?

Everything that rightfully belonged to her had been pilfered by Freya, relegating her to this wretched state.

She would not let her get away with it.

In that moment, Jinny, without uttering a single word, advanced towards Freya, her fury palpable.

"Freya."

Hearing her name, Freya turned, locking eyes with Jinny.

"Jinny, are you here to shop as well?" Freya quipped, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes as she turned to face Jinny.

Unleashing her pent-up frustration, Jinny shot back, "If not? You're not the only one allowed to shop here!"

"Of course, you can buy whatever you want." Freya replied nonchalantly, before adding, "But I remember your parents have fled, your brother is locked up in the basement, do you even have any money?"

Jinny clenched her fists, her heavily adorned face contorted with rage. How dare this wretch deliberately humiliate her with such remarks!

Never having endured such humiliation before, Jinny found herself unable to swallow her pride. "Even if I've fallen from grace, I still come from a better lineage than you," she retorted, her voice dripping with venom. "Even if you've managed to cling to Bradley. What right do you have to flaunt yourself in front of me?"
