Chapter 217 He's Trying to Protect You

Lance's fists clenched involuntarily. His eyes were dark and unreadable, but a frightening coldness glinted in them.

"Ivan, make sure if Bradley will bring a female companion tomorrow!"

Ivan was still reeling from the shock of seeing his CEO holding a woman's hand. He hadn't had time to process what he had seen and was surprised when Lance spoke. He then blurted out, "Yes, sir!"

Lance watched Freya walk away. He leaned against the car, took out a cigarette, and lit it. He took a deep drag.

Freya Lawson.

A skilled doctor.

Lawson Corporation's CEO

Bradley's woman ...

Interesting!

For the first time, Lance became interested in a woman.

...

Freya droves away, leaving the car at the 4S dealership, and eventually called Ella to come pick her up.

She was in a terrible mood and needed to let off some steam.

Ella found her on a roadside seat, deep in thought.

"Freya, what's wrong with you?"

Ella's voice came into her ear.

Freya looked up at her, her eyes still red. "I was in a car accident earlier. My car is totaled. Can you take me to the cemetery?"

She had so much to tell her mother, feeling suffocated.

Ella saw her upset and asked, "Why are you out here? You haven't recovered yet. It would help if you were resting. Did you fight with Bradley?"

"No, nothing like that," Freya's voice choked up. She didn't want to talk about that jerk anymore.

The thought of him spending the whole night with his playmates made her uncomfortable.

Ella frowned and held her shoulders, saying earnestly, "You're wearing your heart on your sleeve. Don't you think of me as a friend?"

Freya bit her lip, hesitating whether to say it or not.

Finally, she took the plunge and let out all the displeasure in her heart.

"What did you say? Bradley has a god-sister, and they spent the night together last night?" Ella was shocked after hearing this.

"I'm sure it was a girl who called me."

Suddenly, she thought she saw a familiar car.

After rubbing her eyes and looking again, there was nothing there.

She must have been seeing things.

"If you're not sure, just call him and ask him. Don't keep it bottled up inside," Ella suggested, glancing at her frequently while driving.

Freya sighed, "I don't mind that he has a playmate, but it seems he's hiding something from me. I always feel like he doesn't trust me."

After years together, she knew Bradley's character. She knew he wouldn't fool around outside, especially considering his allergy to women. Even if they spent the whole night together, nothing would happen.

What upset her was that he should have been upfront about it.

Even if he wanted to bring Juliet back, she wouldn't object. She would even treat Juliet like a sister.

Unfortunately, he didn't tell her, and she had to hear it from someone else.

She felt a sense of being distrusted and unloved. It weighed heavily on her.

"Maybe he's just trying to protect you."

Ella didn't know Bradley well, but she could see that Bradley cared deeply for Freya.

Perhaps he had his reasons for hiding these things.

A black Maybach sped past.

Bradley had been texting Freya from the back seat, but Freya didn't answer for a long time.

He urged the driver to speed up.

When they returned to the Royal Garden Villa, Frederick was already waiting at the door. Seeing Bradley leave the car, he hurriedly said, "Mr. Bradley, Madam has been out since this morning and hasn't returned yet."

"What about the people I sent?"

"Madam dismissed them."

Bradley's face darkened at this news.

He had called and texted Freya, but she had yet to respond. Frederick had also said she had left in anger, so Bradley realized something serious was happening.

Disregarding Juliet, he instructed the driver to take him home.

He hadn't expected her not to return yet.

Bradley anxiously called Madeline, but she said that Freya wasn't with her.

He then called Ella, but she said he hadn't seen Freya either.

Bradley had Shadow send people out to look for her. He had a vague feeling that Freya might have found out something. That's why she angrily left.

The cemetery.

Freya stood in front of Charlotte's grave for a long, long time.

She just stood there numbly in silence.

The sky was overcast.

Soon, a drizzle began to fall.

"Mom, Bruce is dead!"

It felt like an eternity before Freya finally spoke.

"I originally wanted to let him off the hook, but I didn't expect him to be so heartless and ungrateful. He's even going to sell your grave."

Freya clenched her fists tightly, her clear eyes tinged with mist.

After saying these words, there was another long silence.

"In a few days, I will move you to another place, surrounded by the garden of your favorite gardenias. No one will ever disturb your resting place again."

Freya's voice grew hoarser.

It was hard to tell whether it was fog or tears in her wet eyes.

She clutched her fists, letting the rain freeze her.

Ella watched from a distance.

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed from up ahead. Freya slowly turned her head around, her eyes widening in surprise.

James approached and placed a black umbrella over Freya's head.

Freya turned around, smiling bitterly at the man behind her.

"Why are you here? Mr. Gunther's memorial service is tomorrow."

"Didn't you see my text message?" James looked down at her. Her black hair was damp with raindrops, clinging to her cheeks, but it didn't diminish her beauty.

Only then did Freya realize she had turned off her phone after calling Ella and ignored the text messages.

After unlocking her phone, Freya noticed many messages and missed calls.

Most of them were from Bradley.

Freya didn't care about him, so she opened her inbox and found James's text.

I have to go on a business trip tomorrow morning. Let's see Mr. Gunther in the afternoon.

Freya looked up at James. "Why are you going on a business trip suddenly?"

"The company has some business abroad. I might have to travel between here and there or even reside abroad frequently." James's eyes carried a hint of sadness as he spoke.

His gaze burned with unbreakable affection as he stared at Freya.

"Where is it?" Freya felt that this was good. Their relationship was stiff now and leaving was undoubtedly James's best choice.

"Merryvale."

"You previously studied in Merryvale and now do business there as well. That's good." Freya looked up at the gloomy sky, also feeling blue.
