Chapter 296 I am her husband

"Mania syndrome?" Hayden Barnes frowned. "Does he have red, beast-like eyes when he's in a fit?"

"Yes he has those exact symptoms." Freya suddenly saw hope. Although Hayden Barnes's memory was confused, he seemed to remember quite a lot.

"Is he locked up now?" she asked anxiously.

"No, he's still at work." Freya wiped away her tears. "Brother, do you know anything about this illness?"

Hayden Barnes rubbed his goatee, his brow furrowing deeply as if he was talking to her and talking to himself at the same time.

"I do know," he finally said. "I've studied this condition before."

"Then, please teach me medical skills, brother. I'm married to him now, and if anything happens to him, I won't be able to go on living." Freya pleaded desperately.

"Let me think," Hayden Barnes said, struggling to recall. "I've treated this kind of illness before, but I can't remember what medicine I used."

The long-buried memories resurfaced in fragments, but they were incomplete and unable to form a cohesive whole.

Suddenly, he began to feel a headache. Beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead.

When Freya noticed, his eyes took a bloodshot hue, like those of a wild beast on the verge of madness.

Realizing that Hayden Barnes had also been exposed to the poison, Freya knew that he, too, had latent manic symptoms.

Any deep contemplation or provocation could easily trigger an episode in him.

She knew she couldn't push him too hard. "Brother, don't worry. Take your time to remember. Let me know when you do."

"Sue, fetch your man so I can evaluate his condition," Hayden Barnes instructed, his madness dissipating as swiftly as it had arisen.

Freya breathed a sigh of relief.

Thankfully, disaster had been averted. If Hayden Barnes had gone mad, she wouldn't have been able to escape.

After all, this was his territory, and traps were everywhere.

"Okay, I'll bring him over this afternoon." Freya promised.

Freya immediately called Bradley, asking him to depart in the afternoon.

As she waited for Bradley to arrive, Freya called Xavier and Sean over.

"Great Uncle seemed to recall his medical expertise despite memory lapses and reacted strongly to mention of the poison, but then teetered on the brink of madness."

Freya shared everything she'd gleaned with them.

"That's a good sign. Maybe when Bradley comes, seeing his condition will trigger all his memories." Xavier said optimistically.

But Sean shook his head. "Grandpa has been confused for so many years. I doubt that would happen."

It's not that he's being pessimistic, but with Grandpa's fluctuating condition, what's said today might be forgotten tomorrow. So, he couldn't afford to be too hopeful.

"Well, we're trying everything we can. Maybe things will turn around. Besides, now that Great Uncle mistakes me for grandma, I can easily get close to him. It's a good opportunity," she reasoned.

"Yeah, let's wait until Bradley arrives before making any assumptions. I'm afraid there might be other unforeseen changes." Xavier said, feeling a strong sense of unease, especially when he looked at Freya. He couldn't help but shiver.

In the evening, Bradley's private jet landed outside the cabin.

Only Shadow was accompanying him.

Shadow was a well-trained bodyguard who didn't show himself in front of others. He went to check the surroundings first.

Bradley rushed over, looking weary. As soon as he saw Freya, he couldn't help but embrace her tightly and kiss her passionately.

Xavier was already used to this and simply touched his nose before pulling Sean away, leaving the space to them.

This kiss seemed to escalate further and further.

The two seemed to forget that there was someone else in the room and became more reckless.

Just then, Hayden Barnes came out with a bottle of wine and happened to see this scene, causing him to jump up in shock.

"Sue, what are you doing?" he exclaimed suddenly.

The sudden shout startled Freya, who hurriedly pushed Bradley away. However, in her haste, she forgot about the trap lying nearby. Bradley, caught off guard by the unexpected shove, stumbled backward and inadvertently stepped right into the trap, losing his balance and tumbling into it.

Beneath the trap lay a bed of densely packed thorns and razor-sharp wooden stakes. Even with Bradley's agility, he was still left bleeding profusely from the piercing wounds inflicted by the trap.

"Bradley!" Freya panicked as she pulled him up. When she saw the blood flowing from his calf, her eyes immediately welled up with tears.

"Don't move. I'll bandage you up right away." She hurriedly fetched the first aid kit and began to disinfect the wound with iodine.

Due to the size of the wound, Bradley couldn't help but inhale sharply in pain when the iodine was applied.

"Does it hurt a lot? I'll be gentle," Freya said, her voice trembling with guilt. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you."

Hayden Barnes furrowed his brow and quickly put down the wine bottle to come over, gesturing, "Sue, your medical skills are not good. Let me do it."

Sue?

Bradley glanced at Freya, somewhat puzzled. Freya made a gesture indicating that she would explain later when they were alone.

Hayden Barnes worked swiftly and efficiently, quickly treating Bradley's wound.

He then turned to Freya and said, "Sue, go boil some hot water."

"Okay." Freya hurried off to do as he asked.

Once they were alone in the yard, Hayden Barnes stared at Bradley for a long time, furrowing his brow.

"You're Sue's boyfriend?" he asked.

"No, I am her husband." the man replied, his tone indifferent and his handsome face devoid of emotion.

The more Hayden Barnes looked at him, the more he disliked him. He raised an eyebrow and said, "I don't like you, so I won't agree to let Sue marry you."

The man before him had a fierce demeanour, and his icy expression was unpleasant to look at.

Hayden Barnes couldn't bear the thought of Sue being with him and possibly suffering every day.

She was his only sister, and he would protect her at all costs. He couldn't allow anyone to bully her.

Bradley's cold gaze narrowed, and his thin lips parted slowly. "I've already registered our marriage. She's my wife now."

"So what if you're married? You can still get divorced. Anyway, I don't like you, and you're not marrying my sister." Hayden Barnes retorted stubbornly.

As Hayden Barnes finished bandaging him up, he applied a little extra pressure.

Bradley couldn't help but furrow his brow in discomfort.

Freya returned with the hot water and saw the two men glaring at each other.

Worried that they might start fighting, she quickly stepped between them.

"I'll take care of everything else. You should go rest." she said.

"Sue, come here for a moment. I have something to tell you." Hayden Barnes said.

"Can't you say it here?" Freya asked.

"No, let's go upstairs." Hayden Barnes insisted.

He dragged her into the house and made her sit down, his expression grave as he looked at her intently.
