Freya felt her scalp tingling under his intense gaze and couldn't help but ask, "What do you want to say?"
"Sue, that boyfriend of yours, I don't approve of him. You'd better break up with him right away." Hayden Barnes said seriously.
"What?" Freya was taken aback. When she finally processed his words, she anxiously asked, "Why?"
Hayden Barnes rubbed his goatee thoughtfully, his expression serious as he spoke, "He has a fierce demeanour. I'm concerned that if you marry him, he might mistreat you. Moreover, it seems he hails from a rather unconventional background. Our family isn't exactly from an esteemed lineage either, so if you marry into a wealthy household, I fear you might face mistreatment from your mother-in-law."
Listening to his earnest arguments, Freya couldn't help but smile wryly. "That won't happen. His mother has passed away, so there's no mother-in-law to bully me."
"Oh, she's passed away? Then who will help you both take care of the children in the future? That won't do. You must break up with him, or I won't help him with his treatment." Hayden Barnes said, feigning anger.
Freya hurriedly tried to appease him. "If I divorce him, then I won't have anyone in the future."
"With your beauty, you're quite the catch. I think that fella Xavier Jackson isn't too shabby. While he might not be as striking as your boyfriend, he seems gentle-hearted. Besides, coming from a medical family, he's quite compatible with you." Hayden Barnes suggested further.
"No way, I don't like him. Brother, don't play matchmaker for me. I won't marry anyone other than Bradley in this lifetime. If you keep pressuring me, I'll just run away with him, and you'll never see me again." Freya said, her temper flaring as she turned her head away.
Upon hearing this, Hayden Barnes grew immediately anxious.
The two of them talked for a while in the room, while Bradley waited impatiently outside.
An hour later, Freya finally came out. Bradley hurriedly stepped forward and hugged her tightly.
"What did he say to you?" he asked.
Freya pursed her lips and said, "He said he would help you with your illness and asked you to relax and not get angry easily."
"Is that all?" Bradley pressed.
"That's it." she replied. She didn't dare to mention that Hayden Barnes had had an episode and had tried to set her up with Xavier. She had tried to reason with him, but he was as stubborn as a mule and couldn't be persuaded.
Fortunately, Bradley didn't ask further questions, and Freya breathed a sigh of relief.
Freya personally cooked dinner, while Sean helped out in the kitchen.
The four of them sat face to face at the dining table, the atmosphere somewhat awkward.
During the meal, a significant misunderstanding occurred.
Hayden Barnes refused to let Freya sit with Bradley and forcibly made her sit next to Xavier. This made Bradley jealous, and he immediately sent Xavier outside to eat.
Hayden Barnes was even angrier and took his bowl outside as well.
Only three people remained at the table, and Sean felt like a glaring third wheel.
Bradley kept trying to feed Freya, but she was afraid of upsetting him, so she had no choice but to go along with it.
Sean lost his appetite looking at the actions of the lovebirds.
After dinner, Sean volunteered to wash the dishes. Bradley pulled Freya outside for a walk.
But Hayden Barnes stopped them and said sternly, "Sue, you said he's sick. I'll help him check his condition now."
Freya immediately agreed. Hayden Barnes's willingness to help was a good thing.
Without further ado, Hayden Barnes left the two of them behind and went upstairs to tidy up the room where they would stay for the night.
Hayden Barnes led Bradley to his small room, his demeanour unfriendly throughout the entire journey.
The more he observed Bradley, the stronger his aversion grew. Beyond Bradley's handsome exterior, there was something unsettling about him that Hayden Barnes couldn't quite pinpoint.
"I may assist you with your ailment, but I won't consent to your relationship with Sue." Hayden Barnes declared, asserting his authority as the elder sibling. "She's my only sister, and I wish for her to wed someone who can safeguard her and treat her with care. You...don't fit that bill."
Bradley squinted, his dark eyes exuding a chilly and ominous aura.
"And what if I insist?"
"Without my consent as her elder brother, you'll never be a son-in-law of our Bai family." Hayden Barnes retorted sternly.
Stubborn since his youth, Hayden Barnes had only grown more obstinate with age. Once he set his mind on something, he was not one to easily change it.
Bradley clenched his fists silently.
He hadn't expected Hayden Barnes to be so difficult, trying to break him and Freya up. It was unreasonable.
He was curious, though, about why Hayden Barnes was dissatisfied with him and who he had in mind instead.
"If I'm not to your liking, then who would be?" he asked, his thin lips curling up.
"You're asking the right question. I think that guy Xavier isn't bad. He's cultured and looks like he comes from a scholarly family. He would be a good match for Sue, and I plan to take him as my apprentice and have him marry Sue in the future." Hayden Barnes replied.
Hearing this, Bradley's expression darkened significantly.
Xavier?
Damn it, Hayden Barnes actually wants to set up Freya with Xavier.
Anger surged through him like a volcano erupting, rushing to his head, and his clear eyes soon turned bloodshot.
His clenched fist showed prominent veins.
He stared coldly at Hayden Barnes and said in a low voice, "Whether you agree or not, it's already decided. She is now my wife. I can take her away whenever I want to."
With that, he angrily left the room and went upstairs to find Freya.
Freya was tidying up the bed. The beds in the small cabin were too small for two people, so she and Bradley had to sleep separately on the floor.
As she turned around, she bumped into a solid and broad chest.
"Ouch!"
She whimpered and looked up at the person, his face dark and terrifying, like frost and snow in December, cold and dreadful.
"Darling, what's wrong with you?" Freya was frightened by his appearance. His usually handsome face looked so terrible.
"I'm not continuing the treatment. Let's go home." Bradley said coldly.
"No, why would we go home? Only Great Uncle can treat your illness. We must stay here first," Freya insisted.
Without saying another word, Bradley lifted her and headed downstairs.
"No, why do we have to go home? Great Uncle must have said something to you again. He's crazy. Don't take him seriously." Freya said anxiously. She had finally persuaded Hayden Barnes to help with the treatment, and now Bradley wanted to leave. They had to stay here for now.
"He's trying to set us up with Xavier. How can I not take it seriously?" His tone was full of jealousy.
This was his wife. He couldn't even hug her openly, let alone kiss her. And now someone was trying to tear them apart.
He would never allow such a thing to happen.
Upon hearing this, Freya smiled helplessly. "Xavier already has Ella. Why are you jealous of him? Besides, we've already registered our marriage. We're a husband and wife by law now. My heart belongs only to Bradley. No one can tear us apart."
"Great Uncle mistook me for my grandmother. My grandmother had a difficult love life when she was young, so he has always hoped for her happiness. That's why he's so eager to find a man for her. Xavier is his disciple, so it's understandable that he cares about him. But when Great Uncle realizes that he's not suitable for me, he'll naturally give up." Freya explained patiently.
