Meanwhile, Gabriel was preparing to bury the man's body in a pit when he was suddenly notified that Freya was going to see the body.
He promptly ordered his subordinates to stop.
Soon, Bradley brought Freya over.
When Freya saw the body, she was still shocked and overwhelmed by nausea for a moment.
Seeing that, Bradley quickly covered her eyes. "It's not too late to turn back. Let's go home."
"No."
She pushed his hand aside, took a deep breath, and approached the body.
Bradley, Shirley, and Sean had their injection sites on the back of the neck, so Freya had someone turn the body over.
"Freya, what are you trying to do?"
Xavier was perplexed.
"I suspect he may have also been injected with the poison," Freya said. "Don't ask me why. It's just a gut feeling."
With that said, she put on gloves and carefully examined the back of the body's neck.
Suddenly, her pupils narrowed.
"Dr. Jackson, take a look. He was indeed injected."
Xavier took a closer look and sure enough, there was a small hole on the neck.
Freya carefully examined the body and found that not only the back of the neck, but also the head of the body had injection sites.
This man would have been inhumanely tortured before his death.
However, since those people treated him as an experiment subject, why did they kill him?
On the way back to the cabin, Freya kept thinking about this question.
"Perhaps, he is just like Sean. He heard things he shouldn't have.
"I don't get it. Why do they inject people as soon as they see them? What is their purpose?"
Freya seemed to be talking to Bradley, but also to herself.
Bradley pinched her frowning face and said, "Leave it be. I will have Gabriel investigate it thoroughly."
The two returned to the cabin when Jinny and Shirley rushed out.
"Did you find Mark?"
Mark Taylor was the man who died.
Freya shook her head and told them the cause of the man's death.
The two women were very sad and held each other as they cried.
Freya narrowed her eyes, carefully observing the expressions of the two women.
Shirley cried from the depth of her heart while Jinny gave Freya a strange feeling.
Especially those eyes of her, always dark and gloomy, making people feel uneasy
Jinny saw Freya sizing her up and sniffled as she said, "Since our friend has been found, Shirley and I should leave. Thank you for taking care of Shirley these past few days."
"It is not safe in the forest, and Shirley is still injured. Please stay a few more days," Freya eventually replied.
She had narrowed her eyes at Jinny and thought for a long moment before speaking.
"Still, won't it be troublesome?"
"It is not. While the cabin is simple, there are many rooms. We have space for you two."
"Freya, thank you."
Shirley sincerely said in thanks.
Freya blinked. "Don't thank me just yet. If you're staying here, you must follow the rules. There are vegetable and flower gardens in the backyard. You can help with watering when you have the time. Of course, if you can cook, you can also help out in the kitchen."
Naturally, Freya did this with a purpose in mind.
The woods were now filled with Ian's men. Who knew when they would infiltrate the cabin?
Keeping these two close meant it would be easier to observe their every move.
Thus, Jinny and Shirley stayed with them.
The two were assigned a room on the west side of the second floor.
Hayden had been locked in his room, researching the antidote with Sean and Xavier assisting.
Freya was not idle either and kept a close eye on Jinny and Shirley.
As for Bradley, he was even busier, spending most of his time with Gabriel except for when it was time for his treatments.
One day, Bradley ran out of medicinal herbs needed for his bath. Thus, Freya walked into the woods with a basket in hand.
The entire time, she felt like someone was following her. However, every time she turned around, there was no one.
Was she hallucinating.
She took a few more steps, and the faint footsteps drew closer.
She frowned, then suddenly turned around.
"Who's there?"
The only sound that could be heard in the forest, except for her own voice, was a monkey's chatter.
Freya looked up and saw a monkey hanging on a tree nearby. It was the monkey raised by Hayden.
"Yana, why are you sneaking around and following me?"
Freya let out a heavy sigh.
Yana jumped down from the tree and threw her an herb. It was a medicinal herb needed for Bradley's bath.
"No way. You're a monkey yet you know about medicinal herbs?"
Freya was startled.
This monkey was very clever, but she did not expect that it would also be able to recognize and gather herbs.
The monkey called out twice before quickly darting into the woods and returning with a few more herbs in its hands.
"It seems that Great Uncle has put a lot of effort into training you. You, little monkey, are quite clever."
Freya threw the herbs into the basket and continued walking forward with Yana.
At that moment, two people were standing behind the dense thicket.
"This woman is very cautious. I'm worried she might disrupt our plan. Find an opportunity to get rid of her."
"No. She is knowledgeable in medicine and also connected to Leonard. If we can get her to join our research team and use her against Leonard, wouldn't that be interesting?"
"What do you intend to do?"
"I value talent greatly. I plan to mold her into a second puppet, hypnotize her consciousness, and make her work for me."
…
With Yana's help, Freya was soon done with her task.
As she returned to the cabin through the same path she took, she passed through the bushes and discovered some strange footprints.
They were different in sizes, evidently left behind by different people.
It was a foggy night before, so the ground was damp. Throughout her journey, she had left a trail of footprints behind.
However, she was certain she had not passed through this exact area.
In other words, what she just experienced was not a hallucination.
Was someone following her?
With narrowed eyes, Freya bent down to pick up some of the soil before hurriedly making her way back to the cabin.
Upon returning to the courtyard, she did not bother organizing the herbs and instead went upstairs to find Shirley and Jinny.
The two were not in the house. Freya went to the yard to find watering the vegetable garden.
The soil in the vegetable garden was soft, and both of their shoe soles were sticky with mud, making it impossible to determine if they had been in the woods.
Freya approached them, smiled, and greeted them, "Are you free to help me organize the herbs?"
"Sure."
Shirley readily agreed to the request and immediately got up from the vegetable garden.
Jinny also joined them.
The two women went back to their room to change out of their dirty clothes and shoes before helping Freya to dry the herbs.
Freya took the opportunity to scrape some of the mud from their shoe soles as samples, which she then handed to Sean.
"Please analyze the components as soon as possible. I have written down the names on the bags, so don't mix them up," she instructed.
Sean looked puzzled and asked, "Freya, what are you up to now?"
