Four wires lay before her. One was for detonation, one for power supply, and the other for confusion.
Freya eliminated the two useless wires and began her final assessment.
If she could cut the power wire, she could prevent the bomb from exploding.
She was too focused to notice the squatting figure beside her.
She pulled out her knife, ready to sever the red wire.
Most power cords are green, but this bomb was an anomaly. She had a hunch that it was the red wire.
As her knife was about to plunge, a man's voice echoed in her ear. "Are you positive it's this one?"
Only then did Freya notice the presence of someone beside her.
She turned her head slowly, her eyes widening in surprise.
"Bradley Austin, what on earth are you doing here?"
The man heard her call him by his full name and reached out to flick her forehead, threatening her, "I've told you countless times, don't call me that."
"L-Leo." She immediately corrected herself.
Bradley nodded in satisfaction and refocused his attention on the bomb. "I think the power chord should still be green," he said.
"Why?"
"Just a feeling."
Freya rolled her eyes.
But she thought it was the red one.
Because they disagreed, Freya didn't dare to act rashly.
There was only one minute left until detonation.
They sat on the ground, quieting their minds to discuss which wire to cut.
"Leo. If we cut the wrong wire, we'll be dead."
She wasn't afraid of death, just scared of taking Bradley with her.
The weight of his nation's fate rested upon his shoulders, a burden she could bear alone.
"We won't, neither of us will."
Bradley tightly held her hand, his eyes filled with determination.
They could hear the countdown of the bomb.
They're running out of time. Only one minute to go.
Shadow carried Brian in one hand and Brody in the other.
Meanwhile, the boys cursed incessantly.
"Let me go! I'm a member of the Duke's Palace! If you hurt me, you'll be dead in no time!"
Shadow's face was wave-free in the face of their threats.
He coldly smiled. "My boss said that people from the Duke's Palace will be rigorously interrogated, regardless of life or death."
"Who is your boss? How dare you openly oppose the Duke's Palace!"
Brian exclaimed angrily.
"So what if we oppose the Duke's Palace? Even if your father, Ian Logan, came here, my boss could still take his life! Be sensible and quickly remove the bombs. Otherwise, don't mention the two of you. We'll also flatten the Duke's Palace to the ground."
Shadow didn't bother to talk nonsense. So, he carried the boys to Bradley and kicked them, knocking them down.
Brian rose from the ground with a cunning glint in his eye.
Suddenly, he burst into laughter. "Since I'm doomed anyway, why not drag you all down with me?"
Even if he defused the bomb, these men would still hunt him down.
So, why bother defusing it?
Might as well die together!
However, Brody didn't share the same sentiment.
He didn't want to die.
He quickly tugged on Brian's sleeve. "Brian, let's run."
"You're such a coward, always running for your life."
Despite being only ten years old, he had undergone rigorous training from Ian since childhood, making him more mature than most kids his age.
Years of being spoiled and arrogant had instilled in him an attitude of fearlessness. He believed that even if he turned the entire Duke's Palace upside down, his mother would clean up the mess.
"They look like Solterrans. If we fall into their hands, there will be no way out."
Brody had just heard someone mocking them.
He vaguely heard that this boss seemed to be called Leonard Newman.
Leonard's name was well-known in Solterra.
He was the last Solterra's royal Newman line member, whom his father planned to eradicate.
They might face more than death after provoking Leonard Newman.
Brian frowned upon hearing this.
"What did you say? Leonard Newman?"
"Yes, it's him."
Brian's heart sank.
Oh no!
He's angered Leonard.
Brian's eyes darted around, his palms sweating.
Since childhood, his father had taught him about Solterra and how the Logan family had brutally tormented the Newmans.
Now that he had fallen into Leonard's hands, could there be any way out?
No, they had to find a way to escape.
At the same time, Freya was still hesitating about which wire to cut.
She suddenly saw Shadow hurl Brian and his brother at her.
She stood up, holding the knife as she approached Brian. "I'll give you two choices. Either die or voluntarily defuse the bomb."
"Miss, we agreed earlier that you must defuse the bomb, or else ..."
"Or else what?"
Freya raised an eyebrow at him.
"Or else you come back with me to ... to the Duke's Palace to be my ..."
"Be your wife?" Freya cut him off before he could finish speaking.
Brody nodded.
Freya smiled and stepped forward to take Bradley's arm. "My husband is right here. If you want to marry me, you'll need his approval first, little boy."
Bradley's eyes darkened at her words.
Brody's eyes met his gaze, sending shivers down his spine.
The bravado he had displayed earlier was gone, and he now cowered like a timid wife.
"Are you going to defuse it or not?"
Freya glanced at the timer. Only 30 seconds left. They were running out of time.
"I-I'll defuse it."
Brian's voice trembled as he slowly approached the bomb.
He reached out and gestured toward Brody while the crowd wasn't paying attention.
Brody dropped a smoke bomb from his pocket.
"Bro, run!"
Brian broke free from Freya's grip and sprinted wildly away.
By the time the smoke cleared, the boys had already run far away.
Meanwhile, the bomb's countdown reached five seconds.
Freya could no longer hold herself. She lunged forward and severed the red wire.
Soon after that, Bradley grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms as they both rolled away from the blast.
Everyone else retreated hastily.
Ten whole seconds passed, but the expected explosion did not occur.
It proved that Freya had successfully defused the bomb.
She sighed in relief, turned to meet the man's worried eyes, and grinned at him.
"Leo, I made the right choice."
"You are truly the most remarkable, Honey."
He reached out and tousled her hair. His embrace tightened as if he wanted to meld her into his very being.
At that moment, he was ready to die with her.
He wasn't afraid of death, but he was scared of dying after her!
He could endure anything, but he couldn't bear to see her die before his eyes.
"Mommy, you're incredible!"
Matthew jumped out of the bodyguard's arms and quickly hugged Freya.
Bradley's men had taken over the entire amusement park, effectively barring Brian and Brody from leaving.
