Chapter 414 Fighting Death

"Go ahead."

Xavier knew the seriousness of the situation and urged Dr. Baines to hurry.

Peter rushed over in a hurry and asked, "What happened to Mina?"

He went back to cook soup, and now Mina's back in the operating room again.

"Mr. Little, don't worry. Lexi is inside, she will save your wife."

Ella calmed Peter's emotions and motioned for him to wait aside.

Seconds and minutes passed, and the lights in the operating room remained on for a long time.

Peter couldn't sit still, pacing back and forth in the corridor, occasionally looking at the old watch on his wrist.

"It's been over eight hours, why haven't they come out yet? Did something happen to Mina?"

"Mr. Little, please calm down. Since you brought Mrs. Little here, you should trust that Lexi is able to treat her."

Ella was also anxious. She left for a while, and everything was fine. How did things go wrong?

"Yes, yes, Lexi is a famous doctor, she will cure Mina."

Peter seemed to be talking to himself, then clasped his hands together, praying devoutly.

Suddenly, his whole body began to convulse uncontrollably, then he blacked out and collapsed to the ground.

"Mr. Little, what's wrong?"

Ella and Xavier rushed over to him.

They saw Peter foaming at the mouth, convulsing all over.

"He's been poisoned."

Ella frowned deeply.

Xavier had a stretcher brought over by a nurse and sent him to the emergency room.

The surgery lasted exactly twelve hours, far beyond Freya's estimated time.

When she finally removed her mask, she felt utterly exhausted.

After the surgery door opened, Freya felt herself blacking out and uncontrollably fell forward.

Fortunately, Ella had been waiting outside and quickly caught her.

"Freya, you're too tired."

"It's okay, just stood for too long, feeling a bit dizzy."

Freya pinched the bridge of her nose to relieve fatigue.

Ella helped her to a nearby seat and asked, "How's Mina?"

"She's out of danger now, but we still need to find a suitable heart for her, otherwise she won't last long."

Her heart was already weak, and now with drugs inducing failure injected into her, Freya couldn't even guarantee how long Mina could hold on.

"Just now, Peter suddenly fainted, foaming at the mouth, eyes turning black, Xavier is trying to save him in the emergency room."

"What did you say? Mr. Little has been poisoned?"

Freya was startled.

"Yes, blood samples have been taken for testing. It remains to be confirmed what poison he's been affected by."

"Mina injected with drugs inducing heart failure, Mr. Little poisoned, all of this is too suspicious."

Hearing this, Ella frowned deeply.

Someone administered medication to Mina, and then Peter was poisoned afterward?

"Ella, retrieve the surveillance footage from the last twenty-four hours."

"Sure."

Ella promptly went to handle the task.

Without taking a break, Freya headed to the emergency room to check on Peter.

"How is Mr. Little? Have they identified the poison?"

Xavier motioned for her to continue speaking, gently closing the door, and explained, "He has been using Modafinil long-term to stay mentally alert, but an overdose caused poisoning. I've just performed gastric lavage, and he's stable now."

"So, it's chronic poisoning, not intentional poisoning?"

"Yes, it seems he took the medication to better care for Mrs. Little, pushing himself to stay awake. However, overusing this drug can lead to poisoning."

Hearing this, Freya frowned deeply.

She had previously noticed Peter's poor condition, attributing it to overwork.

She hadn't expected it was due to chronic poisoning from medication.

"I'll go in to see him."

With that, she turned and entered the emergency room.

But just as she moved a few steps, she heard Ella's voice behind her.

"Freya, we've retrieved the surveillance footage."

Anxiously, Freya turned back, "Did you find anything?"

Ella shook her head, "In the last twenty-four hours, besides you, me, Dr. Baines, and the nurse caring for Mina, no suspicious individuals were seen."

Freya frowned deeply.

If there were no signs on the surveillance, it likely meant the culprit deliberately avoided being recorded.

"We need to increase security around here. We can't afford any more mistakes on Mina."

"Agreed."

Ella prepared to leave.

At that moment, a slim figure gradually came into view.

Bradley looked at Freya from a distance, his eyes betraying concern.

Freya raised her eyebrows and smiled at him, though she couldn't hide her exhaustion.

Twelve hours of intense surgery had kept her on edge, without a moment to rest.

Upon hearing about Peter's poisoning, she hurried over.

Now, she was drained again, feeling like she could collapse as soon as she closed her eyes.

They exchanged glances for a while, then Bradley strode toward her, embracing her in his arms.

Upon hearing the news from Xavier, he immediately left his work and rushed over, not expecting to find her looking so frail.

Bradley hugged her slender body and felt that she seemed to have lost weight again after not seeing her for more than ten hours.

His heart clenched painfully twice, leaving him struggling to breathe.

She was so tired and weak, as if she could collapse if the wind blew.

With aching tenderness, he gently stroked her face, his voice strained, "You've endured so much."

Freya managed a feeble smile, "I'm a doctor. It's my duty to confront death head-on. There's no hardship in that."

"Sweetheart, seeing you so exhausted pains me deeply."

Bradley expressed, lifting her up and striding towards the villa.

"You really need to rest now. If you collapse from exhaustion, I'll make Xavier answer for it."

"Why bring Xavier into this?"

"As a doctor, he should have shared your burden. It's his failing."

Though his tone was chilly, to Freya, it sounded strangely comforting.

Truly drained, she sought solace in his arms and drifted into a deep sleep.

Invincible spent a day recuperating at the Raven Pavilion.

He stretched his body, feeling weak but markedly improved.

As he prepared to leave discreetly, Black Flame blocked his path at the door.

"Where do you think you're off to?"

Invincible jumped at the sight of Black Flame.

He had clearly escaped before, so how did he find himself back at the Raven Pavilion?

In his mind, Invincible replayed the moments before he lost consciousness. All he recalled was encountering a woman and then being transported onto a plane.

"Where... where am I?"

A shiver ran down Invincible's spine. In his current state, he was no match for Black Flame.

"You returned on your own!" Black Flame lounged against the wall, a smirk playing on his lips.

He had already arranged with the Queen that upon Invincible's awakening, he would deal with him first. He couldn't wait to get started.
