After listening, Bradley stopped in his tracks and looked down at her deeply, "But you still have a fever, I don't allow you to joke about your own body."
"I'm really fine, the fever is caused by being too nervous, as long as I am sure that Ella and Xavier are fine, my nerves will relax and naturally I will get better. But if you insist on making me wait on the plane, I will only become more anxious, which is not good for my body."
It was clearly a flimsy excuse, but Bradley couldn't find the words to refute it.
He knew what it was like to wait, but he couldn't bear to see her suffer.
A man who couldn't protect his woman was incompetent, letting his woman suffer was a sign of his shortcomings.
He had never questiyingd his abilities like this in his life.
He had promised to cherish and love her, yet she had not had a peaceful day during this time.
Freya knew his pain, reached out to stroke his face, and smiled gently, "I am the woman of Leonard, destined not to be weak. If you ask me to leave now and if something happens to Ella and Xavier because of it, I will never forgive myself for the rest of my life!"
"Because, a coward is simply not worthy of being a qualified mother!"
The last sentence deeply shook Bradley's heart. He clenched his fists, his eyes flashing with anger. He closed his eyes slightly, and scenes of his mother protecting him and leaving flashed through his mind. His mother had also said that he was the only hope of the Nan family. If she couldn't even protect her own child, she didn't deserve to be his mother! And now, Freya had said the same thing, leaving him with a bitter feeling. "Bradley, trust me, I am a mother and I know how to protect myself and my child. Furthermore, I entered a hundred-year-old tomb five years ago and have experience dealing with vampire bats. Those poisons won't be able to get close to me." Bradley sighed deeply, unable to resist her persistence, and allowed her to stay. Freya's eyes welled up with tears as she hugged him tightly. "I will protect myself, don't worry." And so, the two held hands tightly and continued walking forward.
Whenever a vampire bat approached, Freya would sprinkle the powder in her hand. Those bats would lose their sense of direction, flapping and crashing around aimlessly above their heads, eventually falling to the ground unconscious. Bradley asked curiously, "What is this?" "Five years ago, I encountered vampire bats in a hundred-year-old tomb. I watched as my companions were attacked and turned into skeletons. Since then, I have been studying medicines to deal with vampire bats, and today it came in handy." "This is a drug that can stimulate the nervous system of bats, making them excited. That's why they dash around when they smell the scent." Bradley looked at the bats scattered all over the ground, then at Freya, his eyes shining brightly. Truly worthy of the renowned physician Lexi, adept at saving lives and dealing with adversaries. "Let's go, we need to hurry to rescue Ella and Xavier. The longer we delay, the greater the danger they are in." Freya's voice was hoarse due to a fever. "Okay!" Bradley felt intense heartache, holding her hot hand as they broke through the encirclement of the vampire bats and quickly headed deeper into the maze.
Five minutes later.
A group of people in front were blocked by another fork in the road.
"Young Master, there are four paths here, which ying should we take?" asked the subordinate respectfully.
Bradley frowned, carefully examining the four diverging paths.
There were bloodstains at the intersection, indicating that each path had been traveled by someone.
As for which path to take...
'Bang!' Suddenly, a gunshot came from the middle path.
Bradley narrowed his eyes coldly, "Let's take this ying."
"Yes!"
The group of subordinates held torches and led the way ahead.
The inside became increasingly eerie, with gusts of bying-chilling wind blowing from an unknown direction, making ying's feet tingle. Bradley was worried that Freya would feel cold, so he took off his outer windbreaker and tightly wrapped her in it. She was still running a fever, her body in a weakened state, unable to tolerate even the slightest chill. The man's warmth enveloped her instantly, making Freya feel much warmer. "Are you holding up alright?" Even though she said she was fine, Bradley was still worried. He had accidentally touched her neck and could vaguely feel the heat emanating from her body. Freya pursed her dry lips, smiled, and said, "I'm fine. Don't forget, I'm a doctor myself and know how to alleviate my own pain." Despite her words, her head felt heavy, and she could barely lift it. Because she was afraid of harming the baby due to her pregnancy, she dared not take medication even when she was sick, resorting only to acupuncture to stimulate her nerves and keep herself alert.
If Ella and Dr. Xavier are not found soon, Freya cannot guarantee how long she can hold on.
"Let's hurry, the sound of gunfire indicates that Ella and Dr. Xavier are still safe, we must go help them quickly."
"Okay."
They walked towards the middle of the road.
The smell of blood inside was heavy, and the recently disappeared vampire bats hissed low, circling above their heads again.
Freya squinted and looked ahead, seeing a dark misty thing swirling in front.
Through the light of the torches, she clearly saw Ella raising his gun and shooting frantically at the head.
"Bradley, where are they?"
Freya pointed ahead, a joyous look in her eyes, and then walked forward, sprinkling the powder in her hand.
Densely packed black objects fell down like Stones.
Ella, who was in the midst of a fierce battle, heard movement behind her and suddenly turned around, only to see Freya walking towards her amidst the flames.
At that moment, her suppressed stubbornness collapsed in an instant, and tears poured down uncontrollably.
"Freya—"
Her face, hands, and even her whole body were covered in blood as she cried out her name.
Freya quickly approached her, dumbfounded by her disheveled appearance.
"How did it turn out like this? And where is Xavier?"
"He, he..." Mentioning this name, Ella's tears flowed even more urgently, and her whole body trembled.
"What happened to him?"
Ella choked up, "He sacrificed himself to protect me, fighting a large group of blood-sucking bats, and was taken away like that."
Bradley was approaching, and upon hearing this, he froze in place.
He beckoned a group of subordinates over and ordered in a low voice, "Take them in. Alive to see the person, dead to see the corpse."
"Yes."
The subordinates carried torches and the powder provided by Freya, continuing to grope forward.
Ella was covered in wounds, bleeding all over.
Freya, originally suffering from a high fever, felt dizzy-headed. Now, smelling the strong smell of blood, her stomach churned violently, causing her to involuntarily cover her mouth with her hand.
