Chapter 6: The Man Was Too Charming

Vivienne's expression turned stern as she commanded, "Shelve Marek's project, effective immediately!"

It was only because Marek was willing to be the Meyer family's golden son-in-law that they'd even considered funding his lackluster venture.

But since he had the audacity to skip town on their wedding, his project could go hang!

Vivienne dropped her cutlery with a clatter, grabbed a napkin to dab at her lips, and made to leave.

"Heading to work?" Cyrus, still seated in his wheelchair, looked up at her with an arched eyebrow and suggested, "How about you take me along? I'm bored stiff at home by myself."

Vivienne wavered, recalling there seemed to be some rivalry between the Meyer and Sinclair clans.

"No need to fret," Cyrus reassured her. "I've got no say in the Sinclair family affairs anymore, and I've been off the grid for years. I'm just looking for a cozy spot to catch up on my reading."

As a savvy businesswoman, logic told Vivienne to decline, but one look into his piercing black eyes and she was a goner.

The man was too charming for words; she just couldn't bring herself to say no!

After arriving at the company, Vivienne quickly had her assistant round up the major shareholders for an impromptu meeting, the main point being to report on the year's financial status.

Although the details were as clear as mud to Vivienne, she could sense that the company was in a pickle!

Cyrus, after listening in, understood the situation better than Vivienne. Seeing her look troubled yet trying to maintain her composure, he started to ponder whether he should step in and lend a hand.

But then, the meeting room door was kicked open with a bang.

"Vivienne, I demand an explanation! Why did you halt my project!"

Vivienne glanced up to see Marek, undeterred by her assistant's protests, storming in with a fiery vengeance.

She narrowed her eyes and coolly surveyed Marek. Then she leaned back in her chair nonchalantly, twirled her pen, and retorted with a sneer, "Explanation for what?"

She continued, "The only reason I was willing to fund your pitiful project was because you were obedient and naive enough to be a lapdog for the Meyer family. And a dog's most important quality is loyalty, isn't it?"

Fuming with rage, Marek spat out his threats: "Vivienne, you dare call me a dog! Just wait and see how your Meyer Corporation fares without this project!"

Vivienne simply rolled her eyes, almost amused. "My family's empire is vast and resilient; we won't crumble without your pitiful project. Moreover, when my grandmother founded Meyer Corporation, she set a strict rule—absolutely no hiring of morally unscrupulous individuals!"

She paused and added, "Marek, as of now, I'm formally notifying you, it's not just the project that's getting a new face, but my groom too!"

As Vivienne finished her statement, Cyrus, with a dramatic flair, wheeled himself over to be by Vivienne's side, tenderly took her hand, and nodded at Marek as if to assert his territory.

Caught off guard by the touch, Vivienne was momentarily surprised, but she quickly played along, raising their clasped hands.

With a broad smile, she announced, "Let me introduce you to my husband, Cyrus Sinclair."

As Vivienne's words fell, Marek looked as if he'd been hit by a truck!

His eyes bulged in disbelief at the man in the wheelchair, "You, you actually—married a cripple!"

"What's wrong with being disabled? Sir, even as a so-called 'cripple,' I know better than to run out on my wedding day!"

Cyrus turned to look at Vivienne, "Darling, if the dog won't behave, I think it's better to throw it out!"

Vivienne nodded in agreement. "Honey's right, a disobedient dog is just a nuisance. Bodyguards, toss this trash out! The farther, the better."

Her voice, naturally a bit coquettish, made Cyrus's heart skip a beat when she called him 'honey.' He looked at her with softened eyes.

"Next time I see you barking at my wife, I won't hesitate to show you what the Sinclair family's capable of." Cyrus's words effectively silenced Marek.

Clamping his jaw shut, Marek ultimately lacked the courage to confront the Sinclair family and was thrown out by the bodyguards like a drowned rat. As he was ejected, his gaze at Vivienne was murderous, but she didn't care, dismissing him with a glance and instructing the bodyguards to get rid of him quickly.

Out of sight, out of mind.

After Marek left, she let out a sigh of relief.

Cyrus's endearment had almost thrown her off.

Regaining her composure, she continued with the meeting at hand.

This little interlude didn't affect much; she carried on presiding over the meeting.

However, most of the shareholders were disinterested, with no heart for the meeting, after all, Meyer Corporation had come to this state, and now it was handed over to a girl who didn't seem to understand a thing.
