Chapter 2

One of the outstanding features of Nigeria is the Lagos traffic- The kind of traffic that could cause someone to waste precious hours at the same spot. It was this type of traffic that Diana met on her way from Ajose street in Ikorodu where she lived to Avalon hotel in Lekki phase 1. While stuck in traffic, she listened to an unknown slow song that the uber driver played in his car stereo and thought of the possible reasons that could have made Anthony text her suddenly. She had cherished the moments they spent on his wedding eve because she thought that day marked the end of their affair.

This unexpected text message and request to see her bothered her. She wondered if anything was wrong, or if he simply missed her. Last week, Lisa, her bosom friend, had advised her to cut off the relationship. She had said that the universe was kind to have overlooked their affair when he was engaged, but may not be kind enough to her since he already has a wife. Lisa had even gone the extra mile to set up a blind date between her and her colleague at work. Of course, that never worked. Diana found fault in everything the young man did and quickly dismissed him. She couldn't get over Anthony and all of the beautiful memories she made with him.

Diana knew that she had to tread cautiously to avoid adding 'husband snatcher" to her already bagged qualifications. And this was why they both agreed to use WhatsApp to communicate since the day she found out about Anthony's engagement. So, why did he break the rule by using the short message service to send her a message? There was only one way to find out, and Diana was already on that way.

In order to kill time, Diana went through the pictures and videos of them saved on a private space on her phone. A particular folder titled 'Saturday Love Shenanigans" brought tears to her eyes. The memories on that folder was made a week after Anthony traveled to his fiancée's village to perform their traditional marriage rites. He had missed her so much that on getting into Lagos, after his wife stayed back in the village to sort things out, he drove straight to Diana's apartment. Watching those pictures and videos made her feel quite nostalgic. In a particular video Anthony was professing his love for her. He had told her he would use her to practice his spoken words career and she had laughed so hard. Throughout the video, out of all the words Anthony claimed to have memorized on his way to her house, he could only voice out, 'Damn! God I love this woman in front of me. Make her happy for the rest of her life." As simple and cliché as it sounded, this meant a lot to her, and hearing him say it all over again made her shed tears of joy.

Anthony had brought nothing but joy into her life. After the grueling process of getting a divorce, the universe had surprised her by letting her see the light of love. Being able to love and be loved meant everything to her and she cherished this opportunity even though it appeared to have a short life span.

She also watched another video where Anthony assumed the role of a dance tutor, shaking his stiff body badly in the name of twerking, and instructing her to do the exact things that he did. He was such a horrible dancer. Her knowledge of Anthony's horrible dancing skills almost exposed her relationship with him few weeks ago.

Diana had traveled to her hometown, Agbani in Nkanu West Local government, Enugu, to see her parents. Later in the evening, Maureen and her mother visited to discuss some of their wedding plans. Diana had felt so uncomfortable when she was left alone to discuss with Maureen. Guilt overwhelmed her and she was at loss on what to discuss with her. Maureen had taken a hold of that moment, showing in a childish manner some pictures of her fiancé to Diana. 'You're about to be shocked. Let me show you a video of my fiancé dancing" Maureen said while laughing loudly."That one that cannot dance to save his life," Diana said loudly without knowing. She didn't realize what she said until Maureen asked if she had ever seen her fiancé dance. And she quickly covered up by saying that she wasn't referring to her fiancé but an old friend of hers who would rather go to jail than dance. After Maureen and her mother left, Diana went into her room and laughed until tears began to fall from her eyes. Her talkativeness almost sold out their secret.

'Ole…Yee…Catch the thief" There was so much noise coming from the streets and this distracted Diana's thoughts. A woman ran out from the bus in front of the vehicle she was in, shouting and calling the attention of passersby to the thief who snatched her phone away from her ears while she was making a call. 'Aunty, dem no fit catch this thief again o," the uber driver said to Diana, and she agreed with him because from experience she knows that the thieves are swift runners. So, she sighed aloud and said to him, 'No doubt, Lagos is the homeland of thieves, 'This was the exact thing that Anthony said on the day that they first met.
