Chapter 3

This uncanny love between Diana and Anthony was birthed in the funniest of situations. It was on the 2nd day of August, 2018 that they first met. Diana had taken a one month leave from her workplace, and on that day, she needed to go for medical checkup. She had a need for cash, and decided to hurriedly withdraw from the nearby ATM, only to be distracted by a loud noise which came from the ATM stand- a thief in disguise of a helper had stolen the phone and ATM card of a middle aged woman whom had asked him to help her withdraw money. Diana felt pity for this woman, and also angry at the same time. She felt pity because this woman had lost her valuables, but she also felt angry because it would have taken the woman nothing to learn how to use the ATM. At least, that way she would not easily fall prey to these Lagos thieves. But she kept her opinion to herself.

'People should wisen up in this Lagos o. Who doesn't know that Lagos is the homeland of thieves?" Diana had turned to see who owned this deep voice only for her eyes to meet the eyes of a young man who looked so dashing even with an expressionless face. So, she quickly joined the queue and waited for her turn. When it got to her turn, the dashing young man quickly entered saying that he was there before her. She had wanted to let him withdraw, but not without explaining that he should endeavor to join the queue next time and not stand afar like he had no business with the ATM. Instead of apologizing, or saying that he got her point, he rudely asked her to excuse him and this got her very infuriated. Given that he was there before her, she could not do anything. So, she stepped back and let him take the turn. Few minutes later, the young man began to mumble words that sounded like cuss words at the machine, and she realized that the machine had swallowed his card. Her first response was a loud laughter which sounded like it had the message; God fought my battle, beneath it. Diana's uncontrollable laughter drew attention to her. She laughed till tears began to fall from her eyes. The young man who had left the queue joined her in laughing at what happened to him and their eyes met, again. That would be her first heartfelt laughter in a long time. With smiles on her face, she hurriedly withdrew the amount she needed and left the bank. On her way out, she heard someone say hi, and she turned to see that it was the young man she had an encounter with at the ATM stand. After introducing himself, they started laughing all over again at what happened earlier and it felt so good. Diana had always thought love at first sight to be a fairytale. Maybe that was why God had arranged hers to happen at second sight. That way, it was not too good to be true.
